The economy is one issue. Asian feminism is another. Japan has been stuck in the 1950s in terms of women’s rights for the longest. It’s not merely the economy that is pushing this trend. Women are refusing because of how bad the whole housewife deal is and how toxic their patriarchal structure has been for women.
Notice the government is trying to push the idea that children and the domestic sphere isn’t merely a maternal thing.
They are doing it right. They are pushing for more paternity leave, better child care resources, husband classes to fight toxic relationship ideals. Once the government makes raising families more palatable for men AND women, this will turn around.
But if women get tired of being disrespected as “leftover” chicks and continue doing their own thing, it’ll still be “fukk them kids” “fukk yo birthrates” “fukk yo society”.
This was according to the Japanese women I used to speak to when I was living in Japan in the 2000s. Now, with Gen Z Japanese, I’m sure they even worse.
Gen Z is garbage. Left over women need to take accountability for their actions not men fault that they didn’t do the work to find a man
