Is the caliber that you practice shoot with the same as your main self defense guns or do yoy practice aka plink with a lower caliber to focus on accuracy?

Personally I like to practice with the same caliber that I'm going to defend myself with. I dont see the point of training with a 22 or a 380 when my main carry piece is a 9mm. Some people dont agree :manny:

I started off practicing with a 22 as a teen so I thought all hand guns felt like that. When I first shot a 357 revolver it almost tool my hand off. I wasnt ready

If you're just practicing for self defense purposes, going with 22 is kinda pointless. If it's for sport and accuracy training, I find 22 to very a valuable tool. I don't have any ranges longer than 100 yards near me, so 22 is actually my favorite caliber to shoot out of all the ones I own

I love the 22. for long gun only. My 22. Rifle is the most accurate long range gun I own and I trust it in a self defense situation if distance shooting is required.

For self defense I have a sub compact 9mm in my bed room and another that i sometimes carry on me. I think I’ve put maybe 10 rounds through them combined. I don’t see the point.

At the range I only shoot .45 ACP, specifically 1911s.

No point in getting a ton of range time in with a gun I don’t like shooting. I can shoot well enough to defend myself with any gun. If I’m gonna to waste money at the range it might as well be enjoyable.

Yeah, my 22 is a long gun and probably the most accurate one i own too. The only pistol i own is a compact 45, but in a home defense situation I'm grabbing my short shotty. Pistols are strictly last resort side arms used in the meantime to get you to a longer barreled something imo.
