Feminism, womanism (focus on black gendered struggle) or Africana womanism (focus on black diaspora) are all based on the radical notion that women are people too. It isn't about putting men down.

One of the things we learn in many of our AFR classes is that if we worked to eradicate the injustices against black and 3rd world women, we would end up disassembling all the other inequalities (for other disempowered groups) along the way. It would only make things better for black men, and in fact, keeping our husbands and sons safe and prosperous is a highly sought after feminist goal.

Can we please have an intelligent discussion on why some posters feel that feminism is a tool of white supremacy?

I've been accused of it several times. I would like to understand how some posters are making that connection.

sigh....

White feminists use black feminists to attack black men. Black feminists exist only to demonize BLACK men, as they rarely if ever demonize white men that victimize them. Also, rarely if ever do you ever see white feminists supporting black feminists that are attacking a white male target. Therefore, in order to remain in the good graces of their white counterparts, black feminists usually choose black males as the target of their ire and hostility.

Lastly, black feminists do nothing but create further division in the black community while creating nothing. Being that the only people benefiting from the actions of black feminists are white people, they by very definition are TOOLS of the white supremacist system to destroy blacks.

Plus, feminism is a undercover way many women choose to justify their hoeish tendencies, but that is an entirely different conversation.

Well I'm a woman, a BLACK woman, so you aint telling me nothing new. :ld:

My fault...I actually thought you was another dude going hard at black feminist ( whom most of I'd consider womanist, but feminist is a broad term to begin with)
By saying it helps white supremacy , when I believe true Black feminism/ Womanism HELPS black men and children and the community as a whole.

My bad bout dat.

So do you think black women should bow to black men in all things? Like if someone on here calls me a hoe or a bytch just because I'm a woman, you think I should say "Yes sir, I's a hoe?" and run away with my tail between my legs. Or should I defend myself and challenge his reasoning for labeling as a prostitute based solely on my gender? Because I have to say, I've been called an LSA troll and nazi-feminist just because I refused to be called a hoe or bytch by someone who doesn't know anything about me.

Let me ask this: what's the point of black feminism? and how is it different from mainstream feminism?

Genuine, well thought-out, logical responses would be very much appreciated. :feedme:

I have no idea what kind of black men you deal with online and offline, but most black men do not go around calling black women "hoes" and "b*tches" for no reason.

Black feminism recognizes that we have multiple identities. We are black and we are female. These different identity come with different sets of lived experiences and challenges. Black feminism also challenges white feminist thoughts about who is included and excluded in discussions about ideas about what it means to be a woman (since white feminists tend to exclude women of color), and the methods that are used to achieve greater equality.

I'm mad? I'm not the one who instantly replied five seconds after my post despite not even putting an @ in there. You're hella defensive for someone who's not mad.

Nah you are just the person who randomly bring up other members names after a single interaction :mjlol:
