Easily the biggest nightmare for modern JRPGs outside of Xenoblade 1+2.
I mean, Remake's execution of turning turn-based combat into a more action-hybrid sounds good in theory. But the execution was meh. It is the classic case of style over substance.
I haven't played XVI, but I know people have issues with it. Though it sounds like it's an issue with both games, then.
The execution was amazing! Did you play Rebirth?
Like, it feels very good to play, is smooth and has all the elements of depth and strategy from the old games and JRPGS present. I seriously think this is just people blinded by nostalgia. FFVII Rebirth's combat system is the best combat system Square has ever developed for a real time combat system.
No way someone can say the atrocity of FFXV was better. That game was literally style over substance with combat feeling like it's on autopilot. Never felt satisfaction with any battles in FFXV. FFXVI's combat got old fast because it had barely any depth to it with no attributes, no other party members, nothing else but damage>stagger>repeat. No status ailments, no magic elements that mattered nothing. FFXVI's saving grace was the sheer insanity of the boss battles but combat? Rebirth does everything better.
Play KH3, FFXV, FFXVI then Rebirth and see how lackluster the aforementioned is. I hope Square does not deviate from the combat system in Rebirth because of die hard nostalgists online clamoring for turn based systems. nikkas acting like this shyt is easy peasy mode KH3 or something.
