Yeah but you have to go through a good portion of the game before you get to that point. That is not how an open world game works.
Yeah, that's why i'm not too worried about this first chapter. It's suppose to just be the midgar section expanded. So it doesn't need to be open world like say FF15. They can have part 2 be like that and have this part be more like FFXIII and still do justice to original game.

My point is that that whole first half of the game is not open world so it's misleading to classify the game as an open world game. FF7 is my favorite game of all time so I already know what to expect. I don't want people who never played it to be misled and end up expecting something that the isn't.

So you could say ff7 is like god of war or mass effect 2, deus ex? Kinda open world but not really?

Technically the game is not open world. This first part is supposed to be all contained in Midgar. Which unless they've made significant changes, proves my exact point.

It's more like FF15 in reverse. Did you play that game? It starts out open world then becomes linear at the end.
FF7 starts out linear, then becomes open world after the midgar section.

Later portions of the game yes. A great example of a true open world game imo is Morrowind. You can literally do whatever you want from the start of that game. If you wanted to fight the boss after creating your character you can. I don't want to spoil too much about 7 but the first part of 7 you are stuck in a city. Then once you are able to explore the world for a bit, there are certain portions closed off until you complete certain tasks. The game doesn't give you the freedom to explore the whole world until you have the airship which is why I'm confused that people keep saying its open world.

Final fantasy games have never been true open world games. The world map gives the feeling of being more open than it actually it. There's a very linear set of goals you need to accomplish before the game let's you proceed.

Calling final fantasy open world is like calling super mario world an open world game.
