Finally got my nikka wake up call

I'm the only black person in my department. Yesterday at our quarterly meeting, my direct supervisor asked what a URM was. My director (who's indian) explained to him while laughing and kindly glanced around the room and locked eyes with me to see if I was "affected" by it. He quickly changed the subject and started asking everyone if they had any other acronyms they wanted him to solve. Everybody laughed
In my head I'm like how the hell are you a 35 year old white man that's worked in HR his whole life and not know what that is.

You'd be surprised at how misinformed these mfs with powerful positions are

My only comment is that your job wasn't "Corporate America" but more mom & pop, so the culture there was anything goes.

You were right to quit if you were HR and had no influence on HR matters there.

Breh this was a small independent law firm. Once I was forced to fire the other two black employees, I was the only black person there surrounded by 3 Jewish attorneys, 2 white paralegals, and a white receptionist

That was a hostile work environment. They also used you to further isolate yourself by having you terminate the other two black people. A truly demonic atmosphere.

It was a law firm but a private owned one located in downtown Chicago .
