Finally read Cosbys whole speech. Why would a black person disagree?

All I'm saying is you can't pull that number out your ass and name any definitive statements about the status of the black family. Which is what you are trying to do by quoting that number.

Like I said earlier, I look around at my own family, friends, and people I know and see it. The numbers aren't that off. Now does that mean that kids aren't being raised by both parents or 2 parents. No, I agree with you there.

However, the kids that are truly hurting are the ones where it's only 1 parent involved. I'm sure you agree with that as well.

If that's what you got from his speech, I feel sorry for you.
Cosby was telling our community that "we" need to hold ourselves to higher standards
Semantics, semantics, semantics.
That's what you got from it just because he used the word "we":heh:....His speech said "yall" in all actuality,if you didn't get that from his speech I feel sorry for you because you are easily fooled:mjcry:...Everybody says "we" bruh,Charles barkely says we,new blacks say "us"....for example "Things like this make US look bad to white people yall:why:"

"Ladies and gentlemen, the lower economic and lower middle economic people are [not*] holding their end in this deal"-First line of second paragraph of Bill Cosbys speech

But ill let you tell it though:sas1:.

Generally speaking who is he not correct about? He's not saiying this about ALL black people? He's not even saying it about the majority about black people. Did you read the sh!t, doggy?
"Generaly speaking" implies he's talking about a majority

That's usually when people use that term

IE: Generaly speaking basketball players are tall

And that is where he failed. Again, i agree with him 100% but the WAY he says it makes it come across as condescending and the fact that he is not really offering up solutions makes it seem as if he is distancing himself from it

agreed

Thing is, he is offering solutions not just detailed ones. Starting with a floor of self respect, responsibility, and valuing education.

You really don't understand the shyt you type :snoop:

This whole thread is about "semantics" or the meaning behind bill cosbys speech.

Except Cosby and others have explained what his motive was behind making the speech. It was to wake up black people and call on us to take control of everything that's within our control (parenting, education, proper standards of behavior, etc.). Why can't you understand this?

Think about how many kids you went to school with that did not have a father. For me its at least 80% then think about all the people your ate that are having babies and are in their lives. For me its almost 100%. Just dropping off my kids at school I see more fathers than I ever did growing up.

The black community has turned all the way around on the issue. The numbers don't reflect the progress.

However, the kids that are truly hurting are the ones where it's only 1 parent involved. I'm sure you agree with that as well.[/QUOTE]
True, but has nothing to do with the "out of wedlock" rate or the conclusions people try to draw from it.

I feel ya. Single Parent =/= Out of Wedlock. Agreed.

THis is why I say you are not reading. He is not saying this about majority of blacks even directly.
Ladies and gentlemen, the lower economic and lower middle economic people are [not*] holding their end in this deal. In the neighborhood that most of us grew up in, parenting is not going on.

I know the majority of blacks fit in to that category. But truth is an overwhelming large amount of these people are NOT raising their kids right. Man is an animal just like any other animal. If you dont train it it grows wild. In this sense training is parenting.

Bill oriely gives similar speaches and he and his supporters claim its for the sane reason:comeon:

The 215
:salute:Cosbys speech just played on the divisiveness that has been there between poor and upperclass blacks for decades....upperclass black person makes it and tells poor blacks they need to pick themselves up by the bootstraps like they did:wtb:...Lashes out at poor blacks becuz they are "making all blacks look bad"....Bill Cosbys entire speech had that stink all over it....If you know your history you just know when a rant feels like one of those speeches....its not that it has no truth to it,but it just feels slimey and you don't like where it "feels" like its coming from....who he was giving thesee speeches to,the cacs who love his speeches should tell you that it aint right...like folks have said cacs don't promote Farakhan or Malcolm calling out blacks.....but hey I guess folks will love what Charles Barkley had to say 10 years from now:manny:

off topic but :salute: to the goat

Bold is the problem its almost always a fukking excuse. Cats can come up the same as you make it and then its they giving out bootstraps when they used them same damn " bootstraps" to pull themselves out of the situation they were in. It always a fukking excuse and I don't know how some of y'all can't see it. "Poor" blacks going to stay " poor" if every time somebody comes with a message its always an excuse unless like others have before said its whitey, whitey, whitey. No shyt it is part of,the problem and the biggest one but what are you going to do to improve your situation when you already know the obstacles? Just whine about whitey who ain't coming to help you or start on the journey to do what you can with like minded people of whatever group it is to get ahead?

OK, but why would you assume that Bill Cosby (who has a demonstrated history of philanthropy and black empowerment) have the same motives as Bill O'Reilly?

Calling me that doesn't make your arguments valid.

Thanks for conceding that you can't argue the facts. As I said before, I'm done with you. Please stop quoting me and baiting me into dialogue with you on this topic. Agree to disagree.
Ahh shut your fakkit ass up. If yojre going to be done then be done.

You said "Generaly speaking" I was responding to you using that phrase not Cosby.

And how do you know who is/isn't raising their children right.

the secret to accepting cosby's speech is to apply chris rock's joke on rap music and sexist lyrics: 'he ain't talking about me'
