I started as a CSR rep then i moved to tecnical support as a rep. I got into this manager intern program and once I finished, I interviewed and got hired. I was a manager in 3 different departments. The last one was Enterprise Technical Support (they call it something else now). I pushed to go there because I was trying to eventually go to a NOC and they was the fastest way to get there. As soon as a get there though, nikkas was transferring left and right including everyone I knew. My department reorganized under the AT&T landline side and that's when they shrunk us down. The problem with advancing so fast is that you might get let go if you have the least amount of senority. That's what happened to me. I was with them for 6 years but every other manager was there longer and had stronger relationships in that department. They got rid of one location all together and shrunk ours.

Every other department in the building I worked in slowly shrunk and/or got canned. So many people got layed off between 2009 and 2011 :sadcam: I knew a few people that went to sales and I even tried to get back in 9 months later but for some reason, once you're a manager and leave, its hard to get back in.

yeah you're right man they kinda blackball supervisors bc don't have the union on their side. let you be a union worker and you can get away with murder, its hard to fire them. We even had people get fired get their jobs back due to union lawyers but sups get let go and or remain stagnant without proper relationships.

Yes!

You don't need college to be a bus driver, garbage truck driver, union janitor, cop.

Or to use your English skills at a resort at a Spanish speaking country

I know two dudes who make 50k+ with fake college degrees they bought online. The trick is to get a degree in something you won't need for the job or something you can bullshyt through and bone up on in your free time. Most jobs just use degrees for two reasons, it shows you're trainable and and shows you had/have ambition.

But anyways Google good jobs that don't need a degree and a hundred articles will pop up.

This one rep was absent too many times and the last time he missed work he said fukk it and didn't show up. He got fired ofcourse but 4 months later the union filed a random grievance on his behalf and because his manager didn't mail the correct job abanonment letter they had to hire him back. He was back to work 3 days later. He said they called him after 4 months and he was like :wtf: :gladbron: and was back to work.

The union there was a pain in the ass. It was hard to fire nikkas but eventually they let those documented coversations and coachings build up on people and they started firing people left and right.

I was just at the wrong location/call center. It wasn't a spot that you were meant to get comfortable at. Everyone I knew that worked there either got fired, transferred, quit or know people/got connections to where they still got their job.

hahaha...That's like winning the lottery...

Even people going to University for 4 years are struggling out here...

The best thing is to...
1) Know what you are about early
2) Go to a 2 year diploma college to learn whatever trade you are interested...
3) Get your 2 years working experience
4) Then do a 4 year degree in that field...

That's what I did, and it worked for me...

No school loans...No debts...

Does a $700 course at a community college for 4 months count as actual college?

As long as it counts towards a degree, yes. Just make sure it's not a certificate course.

Well I have a certificate for power plant technology and I can't really use it for anything else other than my current job.

depends on what u mean by success....niccas with degrees I really don't look at as "successful" if success means working a 9-5 and having enough money to pay bills and go out every weekend

That's cool. At least you have something that secured you a job. All I have to say is try to get a degree in something that will either help you get a promotion at your current gig or get a better paying one down the line.

i feel it all depends on how you go about your life. but i didn't really KNOW that when i was in college. people like my father would always tell me but i never really realized what he was talking about until i was out of college...
