Ahh lucky, How far does your family go back in NY? NY has great records. I know they have a State census every 5 years. When I was looking for my family records from the late 1890s I found out the US 1890 census was destroyed in a fire :mjcry:. New York and a few other states were the only ones with state census around that time.

Late 60's. We're kinda recent in NY.

I know this is unrealistic but I'm trying to find stuff at least during the slave days.
Not unrealistic at all, I though so too but I was amazed how much I could find. Had me like :whew:
I'm in the late 1700's with one of the lineages.
Do you know what county in NC your family came from? What is the decade, year, time period you're stuck at? You never know, your family could've been one of the free blacks living in the area ? maybe mixed natives? :yeshrug:

My family comes from Wilson county. The time period I'm stuck in would be 40's.

I don't know how old the ancestor you're looking for is but if it's a male
Most likely he would have registered for the war in some part of his life. These are great because they have information given by the person themselves. These helped me a lot.

If its a female(or anybody) you might want to try the 1920s 1930s 1940s US census and work your way through those.

I don't think anyone in my family fought in either WW's but I'll check.
