Bachata is basically a three step dance with flair thrown in. Salsa is legit hard as fukk, especially dancing it the classic Puerto Rican style but when you learn it, it’s fun as fukk to dance. Me and my ex would go salsa dancing every Saturday back in my early 20’s. I can probably still dance salsa but me and my current girl go out and dance bachata only. I don’t think she can dance salsa like that but it’s cool. shyt was a chore but it was legit fun.

How much do you pay for classes and how often do you go? I'm guessing you practice at home alone too
Classes are $10 or $15. I go a few times a week and I pay less per class as part of a package deal.

I don't practice home alone, I find it hard to practice without a partner. I might have a partner to practice with soon

November update.

I have found a dance partner to practice with. There is free practice space at my dance studio so I can really start improving more quickly.

I auditioned for a salsa/bachata performance team, and I made the team! First rehearsal is this week.

I have made so many friends through dance that I could go out dancing solo on any night and I still end up knowing over half of the people there.

Nothing on the sex/romance/relationship front for me, but two of my friends who were dating & had just moved in together ended up breaking up, now neither of them wants to go dance so they won't run into each other. She was insecure about him dancing with other women, and he was fukking other salsa dancers on the side, she went thru his phone and found it
:russ: fukkery

I've been seeing a lot if jealousy & insecurity issues come up regarding dating someone who salsa dances.

I always rocked with bachata because it was simpler to dance. Plus you can always throw your own style into it. I used to eat so well in Washington Heights off the strength of dancing Bachata. Had broads thinking I was from San Pedro de Macoris since I can spit in Spanish. Salsa was another story. I had a homegirl teach me some basic steps, but then I hit this party with the :obama:face thinking I was about to eat. This chick accepted my invitation to dance, then when we started, she was looking at me like :why: "I thought you said you could dance"... Right now, my only partner is my wife, and so I dance salsa with her. But when we was dating and I would go up to Washington Heights with her sister's boyfriend, I was a bachata fool LOL so many times son would be like "yo, we bout to be out, you coming?" I'd be having so much fun like "nah, manin, yo me quedo aqui":ahh:

I been looking at classes in Chicago. Trying to figure out how to balance it with Muay Thai if I do take classes. Or maybe I'll find something closer.

Definitely see if you can balance it out! Some dance studios give one free or discounted private lesson for free students.

Bachata is my SHYT. I went to a bachata festival recently and they had social dances Friday, Saturday, and Sunday until 6AM! I danced every night until they closed, I never get tired of bachata.

I love when a chick would put both of her arms around my neck when we're in close position

Would you suggest I start off with Salsa or Bachata? I think some studios offer both

Bachata is easier, but salsa music is played more often at most dance places.

You could start with salsa, then take bachata later. Bachata was easy enough that I learned it at the club while social dancing. If you can take both, do it

Bachata is closer and more sensual if the chick is even slightly into you, if that's something you're interested in.

Word. I've found that unless the club is in a heavy Dominican area, it's gonna be mostly salsa with reggae ton. And even when it was bachata played, they stuck with Aventura/romeo Santos tracks. I preferred the old school type niiggas like Luis vargas and Anthony Santos

I'm learning salsa, bachata, merengue, and cumbia. It looks like you have to know all four at these latin dance clubs.

Bachata is GOAT for just gettin close and spittin game to a chick that's feelin you :banderas:

Cumbia is my favorite so far though, and looks like the one that will impress a chick the most as well as being the most fun

Is it strictly Latin women in these spots or are ethnicies there too?

I'm genuinely interested in Latin dance. I've listened to the music for years and often accompany my friends to go out, but I used to be too shy to get out there and dance.

I especially love the sensual, romantic theme if bachata songs. I often can relate to the lyrics.

I love losing myself in the music, and I enjoy dancing with a partner. I love the close physical intimacy and the fact that each partner is so unique. I enjoy the nonverbal communication of leading my partner.

My goal is not to pick up women, but flirting with a partner who is into me is quite exhilarating. When we're in closed position and she starts to make eye contact and smile, she rubs my arm up and down, digging her nails into my bicep ever so slightly, her chest pressed into mine, our hips moving in unison
:banderas:

:ehh: At least your reasons are genuine.

The Bay
I grew up in the latin part of Oakland and moms is Puerto Rican. I can dance my ass of to Salsa. Its actually Salsa that gave me confidence to dance growing up. Was always at latin clubs here in the bay when I came back from college. I must say, I'd rather speak spanish tho. I speak zero spanish(minored in french in college). Kinda crazy considering how much of it I've been around in my life. Just never cared to learn. Its tough going to South America not knowing spanish...but my Salsa is a language of its own. It just sucks cause I struggle to close with latin chicks that speak a lick of english.

The dancing style I want to learn the most and refuse to take lessons in the states is Tango. I always said my first lesson will be in Buenos Aires. I was supposed to go on 2 occasions but shyt came up. Within the next 3 months tho, I'm there. Nothing like Tango in my opinion. Its more than a dance, its an attitude and its sexy as fukk. Youtube some videos brehs, yall will see. Throw on some Por una cabeza...:banderas:
