shyts, sounds just like me. When I was 7 my aunt recorded a bunch of Shark Week shows on tape for me, I must've watched it 100 times. I'm still fascinated by them to this day.

I'll make a teaser vid of that shark attack tomorrow evening then, and up it here.

:heh: I was kayak fishing in the Gulf one time and was straddling the kayak so both my feet were on either side of the kayak. I saw a big brown silhouette go right underneath me. I pulled my feet up real quick on the verge of panic. I was righteously shook for a second, cause all I could imagine was whatever the fukk it was bumping me off my kayak and eating me. Crazy shyt, the mind, if you let it get going.

Ever read the old man and the sea ?

Sounds familiar, probably have, but not positive

What do you suggest for surf/shore fishing? I'd like a small portable kit but if a regular rod is needed than thats fine.; just got my fishing license for the year and the state park/beach near me is only a walk away.

You can use a regular 6 or 7 foot rod with a spinning reel. I would use at LEAST a 1 Oz pyramid weight.

Ideally, people like to use 8+ foot rods for surf fishing, but it's not needed. Dont spend all kinds of money until later.

For bait, frozen shrimp will have you fishing and catching shyt all day.

To sum it up:

-6+ foot rod
-spinning reel with at least 10 lb test
-at least 12 lb leader line
-1 Oz pyramid weights
-swivels to attach leader line
-1/0 or 2/0 circle hooks
-frozen shrimp

Use about one arm span of leader line for this setup.

Giant Grouper Eats 4ft Shark In One Bite

Groupers are fish of any of a number of genera in the subfamily Epinephelinae of the family Serranidae, in the order Perciformes.

Not all serranids are called groupers; the family also includes the sea basses. The common name grouper is usually given to fish in one of two large genera: Epinephelus and Mycteroperca.

In addition, the species classified in the small genera Anyperidon, Cromileptes, Dermatolepis, Gracila, Saloptia, and Triso are also called groupers. Fish in the genus Plectropomus are referred to as coralgroupers. These genera are all classified in the subfamily Epiphelinae.

However, some of the hamlets (genus Alphestes), the hinds (genus Cephalopholis), the lyretails (genus Variola) and some other small genera (Gonioplectrus, Niphon, Paranthias) are also in this subfamily, and occasional species in other serranid genera have common names involving the word “grouper”. Nonetheless, the word “grouper” on its own is usually taken as meaning the subfamily Epinephelinae.
