Michael Jackson was bigger than Prince and James brown on a worldwide stage. James Brown was huge in the black community and one of the biggest influences on music as a whole. Music would not be the same without James Brown. No Michael Jackson or prince without James brown

MJ took time out his day to come to the BET awards just to present the dude an award...not perform

Just present

Bruno Mars killed a whole super bowl performance just imitating the dude

JB the Dr J of entertainment, no MJ or Magic big like Mike and Prince but the one who paved the way for both

Didn't he stop a riot from happening by performing once?

Boston the day after MLK was assassinated

In the aftermath of Martin Luther King Jr.'s assassination on April 4, 1968, rioting broke out in cities across the country. James Brown had been scheduled to perform at the Boston Garden on April 5th. Boston Mayor Kevin White had initially wanted to cancel all public events, including James Brown's show. As there was concern that the cancellation of the show might cause an escalation of the crisis. it was agreed that James Brown's show would go on. The show, one of the greatest in Boston's history, went on and the city of Boston remained relatively calm. James Brown consoled his mourning audience, dedicated the show to the memory of Dr. King and was instrumental in keeping the peace on the streets of Boston. This concert became known as " The Night James Brown Saved Boston" Fans rushed the stage in the middle of live performance and the police moved onstage to remove them. James Brown stood between the police and the stage crashers and immediately took control of what could have been a riotous moment in light of the raw emotions of the Black community and the tenuous relationship with the police. James Brown addresses the audience asking if he can finish the show, with the infamous words, "We are Black. Don't make us all look bad." He was asking for "respect from my own people."

James brown is probably the most important black musician of all time. It may be controversial to say. Think of the genres and figures that came before (Ray Charles). As far as popular music. James Brown was a huge factor. Not taking anything from little Richard or others either. James brown looked up to past black pioneers

Umm well. He pioneered the down beat whereas the typical style of music was on the back beat.

Research James Brown on the one and look at the artists and the music that came from that.

James was like a musical conductor and he would literally zero in on a particular member of the band at any point during the performance while he was performing and call them out so to speak. He'd signal cues to his band at any point during the performances and they had to keep up. His band was as tight as a band could be.

It's not like traditional music where for instance Ringo is going to play the drums like this throughout the song, McCartney on bass, Harrison on rhythm and Lennon on lead and they play though the song, or other artists who just each follow their own notes and contribute and each part added up makes the whole song. There was a synergy.

Some bands play so well together they leave a little room for impromptu solos or flourishes, some practice those in for live performances but James band was really live like alive. Like they could improvise off each other, together on the turn of a dime off of the cues.
