You are absolutely right about the Kobe thing. I wasn't even fukking with Kobe at the time. And nobody in my circle was either. I was still stuck in my " Texas boy" ways and still thought I might return to Texas after my discharge. But I decided to reenlist and stay in California and once I got my first off base apartment I really leaned in to the Kobe thing the yr after the 3-peat because every Laker game was broadcast in San Diego. So I saw exactly when Kobe became "Kobe" it was a treat
bruh....my whole senior yearbook is full of people wishing me luck on the future then roasting me for being a Kobe fan :mjlol:

i was fighting them battles solo like shyt... my nikka had rings and it aint matter

Still think Iverson with that terrible squad getting that game one win against la was a bigger accomplishment then Kobe riding shaq's coattails to all those rings..

I honestly don’t remember much. I turned 19 that year and was on a steady diet of drugs, alcohol, and substandard p*ssy
:mjcry:
Ravens won the Super Bowl tho :blessed:
That was the worst SB I had ever seen in my life by the way. Only hype was that KR Jermaine Lewis was from my street...

Fake movado watches was the wave, along with the return of the colored bandanas to match your gear...

People thought Young Wun and Drag On were finna blow from the RR compilation album

Best thing yet - I was a freshman in college in 2000, and we had lots of free time and computer labs (dial up Internet) so I found the two greatest findings of my young life:

Blackplanet, the FIRST social media platform that nobody talks about, it was MySpace before MySpace and craaaaaazy popular, but I think internet wasn’t big enough to make it a cultural statement - by 2004/2005, mass media made it feel like MySpace started it all, but it was really Blackplanet by far. Also, there was one before that, college club” , but black people didn’t really use it like that, and I guess this was the beginning of “if black people aren’t using it, it ain’t cool #BlackTwitter”! Crazy we STILL don’t own anything...

Also, somehow I found SOH H....and signed up with the name Hov lmao. Crazy.

Quality started to decline tho, still had some really good (not classic) albums by Big Tymers, Jay Z, Prodigy, CNN, HCP, C-Murder, Snoop, Eminem (influential yes, top notch classic? Fukk no), Bleek, Outkast, Foxy, Beans, Lox, ROD2, Eve, MOP, Dead Prez, Face, Luda, Ball&G, X, Mystikal, Mos&Talib, Trick Daddy, BG, Too Short...When The Smoke Clears 66 61 one of the few stone cold classics out dat year. Maybe Eastsidaz, Common too
