I remember that black lawyer crying

I was in 7th grade english when the verdict came in. I had a white teacher and another teacher came in and interrupted and said " not guilty" to my teacher. Both faces were red and my teacher sat down for the rest of the class at his desk with his head down . Most of the kids had no reaction but some celebrated. I really wasnt even up on the case so I was

My parents recorded the whole case.
My Dad was still FUMING about the beating of Rodney King and the acquittal of the officers. When the not guilty verdict came down you would have thought he won the NBA finals.

I remember this shyt like it was yesterday. I was in middle school. We were watching it in class. The white girls burst out crying like they saw a family member get shot. All the white teachers were red faced and mad. We were happy he won, but their reactions were so unexpected. Even the white guys were crying like they knew these people. I was shocked. I was bracing myself for the guilty verdict. All the whites in class had smug looks smirking at each other like they new they had it in the bag. You literally saw faces break.
Then they showed all the black people gathering in churches and barbershops celebrating like they were in championship locker rooms! Black folk really got it in, unfortunately we're still paying for that shyt today. I've been trying to find that HBO documentary. OJ a study in black and white, but I cant

nah its because the Million man March was a middle class smokescreen to fund capitalism into the NOI...the New Nadir was in full effect at that time and the OJ verdict was an isolated case where he got off because of his upper class status...that's it; the mid 1990s were great for the small black middle and upper class, but the retreat of working class jobs and drug abuse was devastating to the majority black population...

The black middle class is much larger now. Racism is still very much alive, but we are doing a lot better than we were during the 90s.

I was too young to really care at the time but I remember the day the verdict was read because all my teachers were crowded around the Tvs. As soon as they said not guilty, they all just went wild celebrating and shyt. If I had not known the reason they were screaming, I would have thought that we just won the super bowl or something.

Um, more blacks are in college. More blacks own property. And the majority of blacks aren't living in poverty as you might traditionally think of it. Most blacks aren't in ghettos, though too many of them are. Most blacks, like most whites, are working and getting by -living check to check, even with their middle class jobs.

You got to have a more positive view of black America. We are making strides. Do you realize how horrifically bad things were for blacks in the 90s?
