I remember being at a family function a while back and seeing a cpl younger kids on their phones. The thing that was incredible to me was that they were swiping so quickly from one video to another. Each video was just a few seconds so it was so fast. And the videos weren't necessarily related to the same or similar topics. It reminded me of how someone in the hospital might act if they have one of those morphine drip buttons. I understand wanting to watch a show, movie, music video or even playing video games. There is some sense of continuity....there seems to be some potential "reward" whether it's listening to a song you like, finding out the ending to an interesting show or beating someone at a game. But flipping CONTINUOUSLY through 30/40/50 straight videos, each of which are less than 10 seconds long, just seems like something else is happening.

Instagram, Facebook, Snapchat ect..is the same thing tho. It’s all meant to be scrolled endlessly, it may be abit more random than other platforms but the idea of any social media platform in the last decade or so has to been to keep your attention as much as possible. Tik Tok is different being that the algorithm doesn’t prioritize influencers but if you think it’s doing anything fundamentally different than the other platforms than you’d be wrong. The whole idea of an algorithm is to figure you out and your habbits, some platforms do it better than others. Imo all algorithm based platforms should be banned for good.

Cacs don't like things they think negativity impact their kids. They aren't like us who will force young Black children to ingest anti-Black genocidal music and ignorant media.

Your TikTok feed is almost entirely algorithm based. It's much harder to curate than others. It's also incredibly popular with kids.

It’s all algorithm based, all of your social media platforms are doing the same thing. It’s popular for kids because it’s not influencers based, so the instagram and Facebook model of selling you products via celebrity doesn’t work for kids with no money.

sinppet:
The bills target all social media apps and their respective websites, banning students from accessing them on school-provided internet throughout the state, FOX Tampa Bay reported.

It is not immediately clear if the students would be allowed to access the apps using their own phone data.

just as I suspected, there is no legal framework to ban it at the ISP level. they'll probably do this and then say it's not enough and then try to get it banned by ISPs. still a 1st amendment issue though.

I agree. Is it really that addictive?

Bro I know older adults who literally spend hours on that shyt that only used Facebook prior to it existing. Its extremely addictive. The funny thing is that it should be a person with ADDs dream but I cant concentrate for shyt and I HATE when people start using it around me, going from one random clip to the next the rapid change and loud fukking sounds is grating

It's not even close to being the same thing. The internet has fundamentally changed in the last 20 years. When you and I were growing up, we had Myspace and Blackplanet, but those sites weren't filled with psychologically destructive algorithms aimed at keeping us looped into a never ending cycle of "likes" and "content". The internet for us was about communication, talking to each other. Message boards like the coli are a throwback to that era. That's not what Tik Tok is. Tik Tok is there to specifically influence the human mind - and not in a good way.

Adults are crashing out behind social media algorithms. If adults can't handle it, children definitely can't.

Bruh u hit the nail with the hammer. Right now us on the coli we can go in a thread focusing on 1 topic and all take our time responding or just absorbing other people’s posts at our own speed and time where as FB,IG, twitter tik tok never ends and keeps going. Im old school and get my news from forums for sports and other shyt.

I sat down with my girl as she was showing me something on twitter and after the video ended it quickly jumps to the next and the next etc. i got a headache after 4 posts like i got a hit of some bad drugs and got up. She looking at me like im the crazy one but its the same concept as any addiction but because it dont have high calories or illegal people think its no harm when its reprograming our brains.

Not too many people can close those apps after 1 video

Exactly, bro. For instance, I saw your message earlier but work was happening so I was able to just come back to it at a later time without feeling any pressure of "likes" or "views" or any of that other foolery. And the coli doesn't move at breakneck speed where if you miss this post, it's going to be buried 40 pages deep so you feel the need to respond right away.

I agree with you, it's an addiction. And tik tok feeds something else, something different: Everyone's need to be a star. Sure, people feel that way on other sites too, but other sites contain video content. Tik tok is BUILT on video content solely. Everyone wants to make the video that goes viral, or do the retarded dance, or whatever else.

It's a sickness. And as you said, people can't close the sites after just 1 video.

Remember it used to be a thing to make it illegal for advertisers to target kids?

Now, we feed a direct line to their brains via social media. Kids seem fukking brain dead and zombies these days because their formative years are spent looking at a tablet or phone screen. It's like the part of the brain responsible for socializing is not developing due to underuse. Doesn't bode well for a future where they are supposed to lead. Something needs to be done.
