People are saying the game is gettin soft because of how it is being officiated. These BS helmet to helmet, defenseless player penalties and fines are ridiculous
helmet to helmet penalties and fines are legit

Let me guess, you want the players to be all buddy buddy with each other and help each other up after every play and casually ask one another what their favorite Drake song is:comeon:

Legit as in how
the shyt brandon merriweather did yesterday should be flagged every time. Those are perfect examples of legit helmet to helmet hit. Now a lot of things that aren't even h2h get called and unfortunately that's just going to happen.

If you've never played the game (at any level) or weren't apart of it before the rule changes and are speaking from a strictly fan perspective, you'll never understand why people call the NFL "soft" now.

In most cases, its impossible for the defender to avoid using his helmet. I mean, HELLO, football players have helmets on. They call penalties on defenders when they hit a player in his shoulder with a helmet

I know that rule is a double edged sword.

Big hits still happen. They're just mostly flagged. Rules are a bit overboard at this time, but the league isn't a full on arena style fukk fest tho. Good D's still can shut down great passing teams on a good night. I think a lot of people overblow how much the league has been pussified. nikkas still get laid out. Every game.

I played the game just on a high school level, and I've been on the sidelines at many NFL games and it just doesn't compare. I don't think you can use personal experiences like that to judge the game at this state in time. Players are so much more fast and stronger at that level. I've had concussions and hard hits, but I know shyt doesn't compare to what these dudes go through. I know they assume the risk when they sign that contract, but it isn't fukking Roman times with nikkas in the coliseum. They do what they can to make sure they'll be available the next week I feel

NFL used to sell the brutality. It was a main selling point. They included video packages of crushing hits in video games as well. Had TV Shows dedicated to brutal hits. Now it's a no no . They used to show that "The other teams QB must go down, and must go down hard" like 10000 x a day. Like the announcer said yesterday during the Eagles /Cowboy game they once labeled an eagles/cowboy game as a bounty bowl.

You know what's really funny though? There's actually a rule in all levels of football that prohibits spearing. Once you teach players not to spear, you'll pretty much eliminate hits with the crown of the helmet. One thing I can give my high school coaches credit for was to make sure we didn't spear, cause they played when that rule was enforced. Of course they also played when you could clothes-line a ball-carrier and hit the QB as violently as you could anywhere on his body.

Well, high school, college. You ain't got a million dollar contract at risk for making the "right" play. In the NFl you got to make that play or get ya ass cut. So in general you doing whatever you need to do to keep that job.

Man, if you want to change culture the penalties have to be harsh.

And safeties can still do their jobs just fine.

The NFL WAS fine with the rougher game, until those CTE situations started bubbling. Then they tried to get out ahead of it a couple of years before it came to light. Point is, the NFL doesnt care about the athletes in the slightest unless it affects their bottom line.

Let's be real, we ALL like to see hard-hitting football, not dirty hits, but hard-hitting. Which has been and is being taken away. Dirty hits have always been penaltys, but now even good football hits have me looking for a flag everytime
