I was at Backlash 2003. My uncle took me. It was in Worcester Mass. at the centrum. Most of the crowd was very pro-Rock despite him being the heel. This was the northeast so it's expected. Goldberg had some pockets of fans but that was it.

I never felt WWE "mismanaged" Goldberg. He had a title run and all that shyt. Sorry but u ain't comin into WWE and having a big winning streak over Rock, HHH, Taker etc. :russ:

Rock felt generous given that his hollywood career was about to skyrocket.
To be fair Rock never was overly protected even in 2000 which was his biggest year he was putting over cats like Angle who was on his way up and lost a fair amount of ppv matches that year, partially because his charisma he would always stay over so he didn't have to stay dominant all the time :yeshrug:

The Rock was a genius and knew, win or lose, he was untouchable on the mic. He would lose and then would come out the next night on Raw and do a knockout money promo and would be ridiculously over. He also doesn't believe in winning all the time because he thinks it's boring and Superman-like.

They definitely mismanaged him and its not just W & Ls. Its the changing his music, appearance, the loss to HHH was terrible as was most shyt HHH did that year.

Match vs Taker would've been MONEY.

Rock is one of if not THE most generous characters with his star ever as far as wins and losses go.

I went and rewatched Raw from late 97-2000 and its amazing how many Ls and shyt feuds he was put in as a top guy. its actually crazy that he was somehow able to stay so popular thru it all. even in 2001-2002 he was losing and putting people over. lowkey, his most dominate run was his hollywood rock run

yeah blame HHH and Vince. Goldberg losing that Elimination chamber was a crime. HHH's 2003 reign of boring was awful

He absolutely needed to win that chamber. Losing it killed all his momentum and turned off a lot of fans. I don't agree with the music though. I liked both his themes a lot. Changing Sting's theme on the other hand? :snoop:

that reign needed to end at Wrestlemania. If it was going beyond that, it needed to end to Goldberg in the chamber. Vince just had to go and bury every new guy during that 2001-2003 period :beli:

Goldberg should've never faced Rock in his FIRST MATCH. They should've known the WWF fans were going to side with The Rock and boo Goldberg and first impressions are key. Their was no problem with how he debuted spearing Rock to end Raw but The Rock should've went to hollywood and left and never had the match with Goldberg. Have Goldberg go on a little win streak then beat HHH for the title THEN have Rock comeback and face Goldberg.
