Reparations is going to happen. But, it is going to take a massive uprising, bugger than the current one, to do it. When a critical mass of black people begin burning this country down in demand for reparations, that check is being cut. That’s why the new black media and its growing reach, which is responsible in no small part for the current protests, is so important.

You have to start somewhere fam
Yeah you're right.

How do we hold these politicians that support reparatjons accountable after they get voted in? A lot of them say they're with it but who's actually fighting for it?

we’d have to wait for old white folks to die out.

That's not true, there were a host of Congressional candidates who legitimately supported reparations, I did several threads on some of them.

You don't "wait" for anything, after this year's federal(pres or/and Congress/Senate) election, you got the Congress/Senate race in 2022. Nothing is stopping you from talking to other ADOS in your area about what y'all need, and gearing up to step to your Senate/Congressional canidates this time next year.

Also, chances are you live in area w/ ppl already trying to get things going. There's at least 10 ADOS chapters nationwide, most of those are in major areas(NYC, LA, Chicago, Detroit, DMV, etc) or states(NJ). Take the 2min or so, to search on Twitter or Google if you have an ADOS chapter in your metro area/state.

By coming together as a people and demanding they follow through. If black people won't come together for what is owed to us then we'll never come together.

Convincing Congress would mean more than whoever the presidential candidates are in 2024...y'all realize this has to go through the House and the Senate before it reaches the president's desk...no matter if a president supports the idea you need Congress to also be onboard...or else it's just fruitless.
A lot of people don't realize this. That's why I hate to hear people holding their votes for reparations.

why don't we compile a list of government officials and politicians that also support Reparations to make an effort to get these candidates ahead of the field for a 2024 run at the Presidency.

I will start the list with someone who was a 2020 Democratic Presidential Candidate Julian Castro who earlier THIS summer let it be known on Hot97 that he IS for Reparations for black Americans (descendants of slaves) and black Americans only:

He may not be a black man himself but if he is going to give black Americans Reparations does it matter what race he is?

I'm sure there are others out there who support Reparations for black Americans and I would love to see ya'll contribute to this list so we can try to get an early start for 2024 to finally get what we are owed.

Super constructive:salute:

Bro, I'm really we grow past this hope shyt.

This woman straight up said she ain't doing shyt for black people and Obama had the tact to lie for 8 years.

Fam, I'm not here for that. I've made peace with the BLACK GIRL MAGIC that will shower her for the rest of my life.

Her record is nasty. If she was a white man, we'd consider her right wing.

Again, I've made peace she's the next VP.

My issue is the next election and how people will condition themselves into this haze of "Give them four more years...theyll hook us up then."

Breh, understand I'm exhausted we just went through this with Obama. Politicians don't "change." Especially ones that take zero accountability for the nastiness of their record (Giving billionaires passed on thousands of acts of fraud, but, locking black mothers up for their kids having too many excused absences from school).

I'm open to what your saying in the OP.

But, that person isn't gonna be any of the shills that bowed down to Obama (he was wheeling and dealing BTS) and dropped out so Biden could run.

they to stop trying to deify her. That works for GOP candidates and figures. We don’t grant people invulnerability over here. It’s insulting they trying to run that conditioning on us

We know her past. They need to stop acting like this is joyous occasion. She has a job to do like everyone else and must be held to it. She’s going to get her votes, but we will not FORGET.

Why do y'all keep asking for reparations, it don't work like that:dwillhuh:. Either vote Democrats or allow racist Republicans in office.

Democrats could've been given us reparations if they cared, but they don't. What they do is keep racist Republicans out the office.

Democrats have been fighting like all hell since the 1990s for healthcare reform. It's something they clearly want and have cared about for generations, and it ain't here yet. Lawmaking is not about how much one party "cares" you fukking idiots, it's about getting an entire--or at least a majority--of a diverse country and both chambers of Congress to agree to something. There is not enough public support for reparations outside of attentions starved internet hoteps desperate for public profiles for any party or politician to fully support it. And in fact the same contrarian hoteps and agents who use African American issues for their own personal agendas have y'all convinced that if y'all alienate as much people who have been historically supportive of black causes as possible and align reparations instead with anti-immigrant white supremacists who elected Trump and have been historically unsupportive of black causes this is how we will somehow achieve our political goals. Y'all are so easily duped it's not even funny anymore.

My Georgia heads, y'all should heavily consider this Senatorial candidate this election.

https://www.tamaraforgeorgia.com/issues
She had a political meet and greet at this popular restaurant here in Atlanta called Paschals that I attended.
She’s been my candidate, and I can’t wait to vote for her in November. I’ve donated to her campaign, and have been out here talking her up. I don’t agree with everything, but she hits on my main wants.

I don't want to deny the importance of rallying around supportive individual politicians

but

developing a strategy and presenting Reparations as a unavoidable and undeniable issue of economic justice, beyond a particular candidate's support, is more important. Too often reparations has been utilized as a "gimmick" for candidates that have little to no shot of winning (on a national level) to acquire any support possible.

It's good that these candidates are right, but what can be done to make reparations win?

The people spreading awareness like this thread and supporting the candidates.

Yeah but "spreading awareness" isn't enough. It's about framing it's political efficacy and necessity. If you find the politician that's able to do it (supporting reparations AND winning with it's support), sure.

But even my point is sort of putting the cart before the horse given that this country won't even commit to raising wages and providing healthcare.
