For the first time since 1990, there are no hip hop songs in the Billboard top 40

Hip Hop died a long, long time ago. They trotted a shell that was a burnt out hollow wreck that they Ctrl C, Ctrl V'd to sell a derivative but the thing is, since Nine Tray, the grift was obvious so I'm surprised it lasted. Wonder what they'll come up with next as a weapon of mass influence as the Feds invented the Hippie flex and were there at the genesis of Rap as well.

Bet you it will be a new genre fronted by a gender neutral robot or something.

Drake and Kendrick are pushing 40, they aren’t still supposed to be the saviors. By the time Jay was 40 the Kanye/jeezy/TI/wayne era was at its peak and drake/wiz/cudi/nikki/kendrick/cole were gearing up to hold down the next decade. That equivalent wave to Kanye them flamed out and there is no “next”
This is the side effect of the drake kendrick beef. Drake is corny, and he was a plant, and he definitely got what he deserved from Kendrick but that motherfukker was the golden goose for a whole lot of rap artist and all of them "ganging up" on him was the dumbest shyt possible. That fight wasn't their fight. They should have sat back in the cut and kept getting features. Too many motherfukkers on one hand got paid with Drake and on the other hand was like fukk Drake.

:yeshrug: Drake was Kendrick's target alone, he didn't need any of them other rappers' help. Ironically enough cause it's bird related but Drake was the Hip Hop golden goose and there aint no artist in the wings. Drill rap isn't commercial enough.

You’re not wrong but knowing that, killing an old golden goose doesn't mean he wasn't still the golden goose.

We could get into another bigger debate about the fact that no more support for A&Rs as big data and a push to stream led to now as well. There’s talent out there, the issue is none of its been groomed to be the next big mainstream rap act.

Low-key we’re seeing a similar thing in the NBA where there are a bunch of guys as talented as Lebron is right now at 41 but none of them have his superstar draw. A large part of that being that most of the biggest talent is coming from overseas players.

NBA has had it's biggest opening week since 2017. With no lebron to start the season. It's not anywhere close.
Nba has Wemby.
So even if he's not American. Alteast, it has some draws
