Def not as fanatical about sports as I used to be. I think the turning point was the Duke-Lehigh game :sadbron:

3 years ago I would refuse to watch ESPN for a couple of days after a Duke or Cowboys loss. Nowadays? Doesn't bother me as much :manny:

Im bout to drop some science on you that the gods and them dropped on me.

Sports, is derived from the word disport, which means distraction. Sports are promoted because it creates tribalism and also channels and transmutes masculine energy from accomplishing your own goals and doing shyt, to cheering for a tribe(Team).

Most sports fanatics are in a place of purgatory, not going forward ,not going backwards.

For about 11 years I didnt follow the knicks much. Yankees I followed here and there

...less of a fanatic towards sports?

I'm about to turn 34 and am really focused on my career. Just about to finish up school and move in July. I'm a huge Yankees/Knicks fan but find myself more indifferent than in the past. I don't have a wife or kids yet so it's not that. I dunno.

Also, when I see a guy who's in his middle-ages and whose only focus is on sports I find it kind of depressing. The simple fact that you base your whole existence on something over which you have no control? That's not even stupid - it's insane.

Thoughts?

10 years of being irrelevant will do that to you :umad:

j/k, I'm a Knicks fan too :salute:

I get what you're saying, I think it different things: less time obviously, but also realizing it's not that big of a deal, and at some point you've kind of "seen it all". Seriously, how many times are you blown away by a play now? there's also oversaturation and as youngsters in the late 80s 90s (I'm 32) I think athletes still had a "mystique" around them, now we follow their bs on twitter every single day. And since I'm just a basketball fan, we can't act like the NBA hasn't really lost in quality of play (which is different from talent) and "entertainment" value. Dudes getting techs because they taunt a player after a dunk, players going for the charge instead of the block, any sign of intensity being a foul now. It might've been ugly, but the Knicks-Heat playoffs series were entertaining as hell and the intensity really pulled you in.

i think cause as a kid sports figures were seen as almost God like ....social media and all that wasnt around so it was only what we saw or heard through the grape vine...

now they seem like kids spoiled kids at that ....also its a lot more of a business before players could be drafted and retired with the same team now that's like unheard of ....add in all the rule changes and the game seems almost unfamiliar

so in short its a combo of things

Just as big a sports fan as I've ever been which is apparently not that big after reading some of these replies. I like basketball. I like the Knicks. I watch em when I can. Thats it. In fact the 2 t-shirts and snapback I bought last november are my 1st Knick paraphenelia since 1994. And back then it was 1 t-shirt.

When you cover it, it's not that the love goes away, you just become way more objective. The irrational nature towards my favorite teams just isn't there as much. I take that "no cheering from the press box" rule a little too seriously at times. That's where the coli comes in

This.

Also, spending time in other cities, enjoying other teams and players has dulled my edge significantly.

As a youth I was a sports FIEND!! I watched and followed most sports, pro, college, and H.S., but now that I'm older I can't tell you the full roster of all teams, except my favorite teams. I don't have the desire to follow sports anymore, the innocence was taken away, too many public opinions and watered down broadcasts and business. The whole mystique is gone for me, plus I have a life.

I still love the NBA but I just don't CARE about it as much as I used to. A few years back I would skip work to watch a random Nets-Warriors game. I wouldn't dream of doing that now. It doesn't have anything to do with basketball itself, it's just simply my growth and maturation as a total person will not allow me to dedicate as much time to sports as I used to. To be honest I envy those old days. Hell, I work nights now and as short as a year ago I wouldn't even consider working a night job during the regular season. I have League Pass but I hardly ever watch games unless its the Lakers, Knicks or Heat; I used to watch everybody.

I guess that's just the price of growing up.

Yep, I noticed that around 27 though. I still watch football on Sundays but I don't really follow any college sports anymore. I usually watch some NBA games but I don't usually watch any games from start til finish until the playoffs start.

Games I really care about get my blood pumpin and gets me hype but it s not like it used to be where if my team lost it would fukk up my day. Now I'm just like " :ehh: maybe next time."

I'ma always follow them thought cause just a part of who I am, I've always played sports and now my son plays Basketball, Football so its always gonna be there. Just not as important

Where I am noticing it most is in college sports. I really dont like college basketball, and not that enthused about college football either.

It has nothing to do with top talent leaving, and a lot to do with the game sucking.
