For those of you who've seen NBA players play in HS, how good are they?

sometimes you just know theyre going to be a lottery pick. guys like Rasheed Wallace, eddie griffin(RIP), Dejuan wagner, tyreke evans. and shoutout to dejaun blair.

sometimes they didn't really separate themselves as NEXT LEVEL to me. its dudes that i knew would make noise in the NCAA like mark tindale, sean singletary and i would hear about hakim warrick.

specifically kyle lowry. dude was NICE and I wasn't surprised he was doing his thing at villanova, but I didn't expect him to be an all-star or even an nba starter. even when he was at nova, I didn't expect it. but yea, he was NICE in high school, but he wasn't no muhf*ckin MAURICE RICE back in that era.

that nicca Maurice rice had the city sewn. broke wilt chamberlain's scoring record, crossed Lebron on ESPN and almost made him fall. dude was kinda old tho, was sorta built like khalid el-amin, and had chitty grades. he had to go to some kinda school to get his grades up or something before he popped up at George Washington a couple years later. he was on the '07 squad that was really good. he was like 2nd or 3rd in their clergy system. and hes on the college hoops 2k8 game, but he was prolly like 26 years old by then. he had a lil buzz in the d-league too.

and its a lot of dudes that was nice that didnt make any noise past high school, for one reason or another. whether it be because of basketball reasons or other chit.

I remember malik wayns from simons, and recall seeing john salmons at finley. those are playgrounds. and I heard stories about flip murray out north. I couldn't tell you what high schools they went to. somebody told me that i know jason Thompson from playing up finley. dudes was NICE. and its a lot of dudes that was NICE that didn't even play high school ball.

It looks like they're playing a completely different sport

I saw Lebron vs my HS the year before I went there. We were either in the midst or just coming off a state 3 peat, with the NC POY in Reyshawn Terry (Small Forward, Tar Heels / Mavs). And he had absolutely fukking NOTHING for Lebron. It was honestly frightening how vast the gulf was :picard:

Chris Paul in HS? Forget about it. He did whatever he wanted to, whenever, to whomever, and as often as he wanted to. Saw him often since he went to school across town.

Just did some research 15,000 people was at the game :wow:

I went to U of I and played pickup with and against Deron Williams, Dee Brown and Luther Head. The most glaring difference is those dudes do not miss, and they just play faster. They know what they're doing on the court. No over dribbling.

I'll say D-Will was a more willing passer, while Luther would just jack up shots. I never really saw future NBA talent in Dee. He's not that tall (no way is he 6') and he didn't have super athleticism. He couldn't even dunk.

I saw Chuck Hayes play in a high school tournament and he was dunking all over the place, his jumper was wet, and he was just bigger stronger and faster than anyone on the court by far.

Seeing him come into the league as a seemingly leadfooted center that looked unathletic and unskilled by comparison was like :ohhh:

Is it athleticism or skill? Like are they just better at the game or just too big, fast, and strong for average dudes

Nope.. Lopez played for Rice and it was their system that made him look all world but real heads knew what time it was.. plus it was always whispers that nikka was older than they let on.. Duke was like 25,26 playing with a bunch of 16-18 yr olds
Lol, chill. On what planet is this a 25 year old?

I've seen Felipe Lopez coaching a youth team and breh looks about his age. Dude was good enough to make it to the league but he fell to that next Jordan-hype like Harold Minor. It's a big leap from being a star in high school and flourishing in the league.

depends on who we're talking about.

dudes like Rasheed, griffin, wagner, tyreke, etc. they had it ALL.

kyle lowry - aside from the mere visual of him being a scrawny 10th grader, getting his as a starter on varsity, he wasn't a guy that would really WOW me, and still isn't. hes just a guy that's really skilled at his craft and really gets IT on the I.Q. side of things.

on the other hand - theres hakim warrick, who I never actually saw before Syracuse, but I heard about, and years later, got first-hand accounts from people who he chitted on. he seems like he was more of a physically & athletically gifted type.

if its the players that didn't make it or didn't try to make it, that youre asking me about; dudes usually lacked the size or dedication, or they had other interests(good or bad), or a combination of things.

especially size. no disrespect to jameer nelson - who is small by nba standards himself, but the best player I ever saw on chester was the real short ass point guard that they had about 10 years ago. really, most of the best players Ive ever seen pound-for-pound were smaller guys. even in the league. peep the avi.

The Rucker
Jason Richardson WAS CLEARLY more athletic and striaght up better than everyone but Lavell Blanchard in HS.

Lavell Blanchard went to a high school in our conference. His as senior year we beat them at our gym. They beat us by like 30 the first time we played them that year. Can't believe he never made it

nikka would call for oops from half court
