Language appropriation is definitely one of the unique cultural identifiers of the Africans brought to American through slavery.
Taking a word and making it mean something else is one of the unique cultural identifiers of so called "Hip Hop" as well.

Giving our own meaning to words of the white mans language is nothing we should shame ourselves about. Taking that word in particular, and turning its power against the white man, is one of the greater accomplishments of the Africans brought to the United States of America.

you're the opposite of me. I use it with reckless abandon. but I spend 90% of my week around black people so I don't give a shyt. all my kids activities are black as well. their cheerleading is black owned, their dentist is black, their piano teacher is black. we live around blacks. I don't call them nikkas, but I have no problem with black people using that word around other black people.
