Valerie Ervin criticizes Ben Jealous as she supports Rushern Baker for Maryland governor
Ervin contrasted the California-born Jealous, whom she called a “carpetbagger,” with Baker, whom she called a “stalwart son of Maryland.”
Jealous campaign manager Kevin Harris shot back with a dig at Ervin’s origins.
“It’s ironic someone from New Mexico would allege another candidate is a carpetbagger, but what else would you expect from a person who lies about how and why they lost their job?” Harris said. “Rushern Baker must be pretty desperate to want that kind of support."

what a disgusting comment from Valerie. I was a supporter of her story, being the first black woman on the Montgomery County Council. Carpetbagger is such a vile and disgusting description of a fellow african american.
What are his real chances in nov?
What's wrong with posting an observation? I never paid much attention to him until now.Take a hike.![]()
What are his real chances in nov?
He's got a shot
Maryland is a blue state and Dems outnumber GOP like 2 to 1
Issue is Hogan is popular, he's governed right in the middle though if Ben is smart he'd highlight what can get done with a Dem legislature esp with regards to healthcare, funding schools fully in pockets of the state Hogan has withheld money, and the criminal justice reforms
there was a poll last week that had Hogan up +17 pts on Jealous.
so called blue states are more tenuous in their support for liberals than red states or even purples states are for conservatives. that's why you can have a ben hogan in maryland because the state is still majority white and he just has to be likeable and down the middle on issues that concern them and to the right on issues they don't feel concern them.
