The former NFL-er was fined $20,000 by the city Buildings Department in 2021 for falsely claiming the building was empty when the work began, and not having a “tenant protection plan” in place for Kalmenson, according to DOB records.

apartments in NYC….in the boroughs….are like $2K a month so he essentially is getting two years of free rent. Now if he’s upset about losing a rent controlled apartment, he needs to be real with himself and admit he can’t afford NY anymore and move to a cheaper area. He can go to an affordable suburban area in a different state or he can choose a cheaper city like Philly or Chicago to move to. He’s very entitled imo. I’d take that $45,000 and move.$45K is more than generous imo. The guy was a renter. It’s not a landlord’s job to give you almost fifty thousand dollars to help you moveapartments in NYC….in the boroughs….are like $2K a month so he essentially is getting two years of free rent. THat's not Canty's problem. Dude is a month to month tenant who doesn't own shyt. He about to get kicked out with $0.At some point he'll have to leave. But $45k ain't shyt in New York. I need at least double and all moving expenses paid and I'm gone
You do realize the prices are going up everywhere.......
Nikkas will defend the system until it swallows them up, then they want sympathy.

That's wrong - especially if it's a rent controlled apartment. If it's rent stabilized, they can't evict him legally and have to renew the lease. I don't think Canty has any legal recourse to evict if the guy is up to date on rent and adheres to the lease. The easiest fix is to up the buyout.THat's not Canty's problem. Kalmenson insisted in court papers that prior landlords violated the law by treating the building as a co-operative, when it should have been rent stabilized — a move which would have allowed the residents to stay after Canty purchased it.
Canty, who is also being sued by the city and state for allegedly evading more than $1 million in taxes related to his purchase of the property, claims the building is still a co-op and should not be deemed rent stabilized, legal papers show.

I can’t feel sorry for someone getting $45,000 when I gotta pay rent every month![]()
He's living in a condemned quality apartment. He has no utilities. His apartment is not up to code. It's infested with rats and the floors are rotted. It's not going to be long until something collaspes and he gets hurt or worse. That's wrong - especially if it's a rent controlled apartment. The tenant is paying $2600 for a two bedroom on the UES? The juice is worth the squeeze at that point. Again - Canty should've stopped bullshytting and upped the buyout when he saw this guy was playing hardball. If he could've gotten the guy out legally it would've happened by now. NYC is super pro tenant in housing court. It's almost impossible to get someone out once they're in. Ask me how I know. He's living in a condemned quality apartment. He has no utilities. I don't understand how NYC deems the apartment livable to be honest.
