These “40 Million dollar slaves” have to want to give all of that up for me to care. You can’t sit there as an athlete and call it that while also reaping the benefits from the same people you’re criticizing.. It just doesn’t make sense to me. All the leagues are the same way man.. No league is less racist than the other lol. It’s old white dudes watching big strong guys compete so they can take the biggest and strongest. And there’s a little racism sprinkled in there.

Above the fray.
Listening to this now.
Not sure if he mentions the reference, most of the yt dudes do not....but 40 million dollar slaves is a book written by William Rhoden.

He is one of those live old school Black sports journalists.

Title comes from an era that Knicks fans remember fondly........that epic run they made to the Finals the year Ewing was hurt. Larry Johnson said the Knick were out here playing without fear like some runaway slaves. Bill Walton tried calling LJ out for "inappropriately using slavery reference"
LJ delivered the ether "Bill Walton's family probably owned slaves so who is he to comment?"..
Walton promptly shut the fukk up after that.

Racist white fans resented rich Black men referring to themselves as slaves, so the following year some loser fan was taunting LJ from the safety of the stands "slave?.....yeah right, you're a 40 million dolllar slave""

Book is decent but it's pocket watching to the most extreme level. This video seems well intended but it's an obvious hit piece.

He begins by showing the Lebron comment about the NFL without showing the conversation that led up to the comment. Gonna listen to see if he goes back and frmes the comment, but I doubt it

Just another thread where free/accomplished black men are attributed to slaves.

"Pro blackness" at work
It's nothing to do with the black men. they are accomplished as you said.

it's about the white business owners and their attitudes towards the people they employ. Just because they compensate us well doesn't mean we should give them a pass for actively working towards marginalizing our communities through political pac donations and stuff like that.
The national anthem conflict is a direct result of this, they literally told us "hey we pay you millions so you're not allowed to speak out against our friends in blue. In fact, you have to support them as they kill your people ." Even in a 1% tax bracket they expect us to know our place.

Negativity (Kayfabe)
I hate how much people seem to be able to get out of the smallest bits of media no matter how out of context.

Corey Holcomb said it the best; so, ya'll wanted Chris to go all Tupac? :pacspit:

I've said it once and I'll say it again; most of these people expect athletes and entertainers to do shyt they don't have the balls to do. Most want them to lose their entire careers for the cause, but, none would come to work 15 mins late for the cause.

Athletes are nowhere near slaves, but they are underpaid in regards to the revenue they bring in.

My girl brought tickets for me to see my Pacers play the wizards, tickets were like 40 bucks. Looked at the same seats when the Lakers come to town almost $250. That's all due to one player.

They generate billions in profit and only get a fraction of that in return.

Pretty sure that goes for 99.9% of all workers including you.

Well I actually run a business, so while I am underpaid, it's by choice to reinvest into the business.

But you're absolutely right tho. Most people, athletes included, get addicted to a lifestyle financed by easy credit and lose the only leverage they have against employers, the ability to walk away
