This sh*t is still AOTY for me.

Haven't stopped playing it.
I go back and forth between this and Mobb. But it's those two and the third isn't even close.

People criticize the subject matter but I think what Freddie did here is underrated in the sense that he PERFECTLY compliments the soundscape Alchemist created for him...and his content gets a bit underrated. There's a sense of paranoia and nihilism in his raps which I didn't really get from any of his other projects (which I also admittedly don't love like that).

This album is definitely special for me as it doesn't benefit from the nostalgia that the Mobb album has, or any high profile features.

The Mobb might be my second pick for the year, so far.

Everything you said about the Gibbs project is how I feel about it too. I actually appreciate that his subject matter has been consistent since day one. And his chemistry with Alchemist is undeniable. I think they do their best work with each other.

I like that alchemist is able to stay neutral when it comes to rap beats

Drake x Kendrick
Apparently Drake doesn't like ALC after Meet the Grahams, even though Al had no idea that K.Dot was going to diss anyone with the beat.
Alc took shots at Drake before meet the grahams dropped. I dont know if Drake did some ho shyt behind the scenes before Alc made the tweet,ut he definitely tweeted something that a lot of people took as a Drake shot

Bro no one gives a fukk about any of that shyt you just typed. If the music is good, then the music is good and that’s all that matters. All that extra BS is for you dorks who don’t even like the music. Just want to be critical.

MadGibbs and Alfredo as duos have entirely different vibes, to me. IMO on MadGibbs projects the beats are the main attraction, and Freddie meets Madlib where he is, and Madlib doesn't tailor anything to Freddie. The sample selection is so vibrant and colorful and varied from song to song, it's like a kaleidoscope of colors and sounds. And I feel like Freddie's voice just becomes another instrument in the beat. On Alfredo projects I feel like the raps are the main attraction, and ALC meets Freddie where he is, and tailors his beats around Freddie, and the beats are more there to be a soundscape for Freddie's voice to be the star of the show.

For my personal taste, I prefer MadGibbs over Alfredo as a duo, but only by a little bit. Both duos are super fire.

Edit: BTW both duos have confirmed in interviews that their process matches what I've said. Freddie said Madlib basically sends a batch of beats and they're already made, and Freddie has to write the raps to whatever's there. Freddie has said that ALC builds the beats around him and that their process is a little more collaborative. Freddie also doesn't pick as many Madlib beats. The beats are just kinda given to him. With Alfredo, Freddie picks most of the beats, and ALC doesn't really push as many specific beats onto Freddie.

Ah a thoughtful response, Props

My thing is if you ask for the dopest laidback track, Hardest track, best conceptual track etc. they would all be Madlib tracks, He's just way funkier.
