I wonder why the movie was more about jack, I only really seen the movie starting from the middle and I don’t remember the son having powers.

Jack regains himself enough to tell his son to run but the hotel has Jack beat himself in the head with a mallet killing off his human self. The son tells the hotel that the broiler or whatever in the basement hasn't had its pressure relieved so Jack runs down there but can't relieve the pressure causing the hotel to be blown up. The kid, the mom and the black dude live.
