I ain't know Fredro was a rapper till like 3 years ago. I was :wtf:

:mindblown: who are you people!? He has had solo albums and he's one of the 2 main members of Onyx which were one of the best groups of the 90s 1 classic, 1 arguable and 1 great album. Sticky is one of the few to murder Em on wax, Fredro was in a number of movies and TV shows and most likely had at least one Onyx song in the soundtrack of all his movies.

I'm pretty well versed in 90's hip hop but the one area I'm weak in is those lesser known New York rap groups like onyx and mop and shyt. (Lesser known to the mainstream) I always heard the names but never cared to research them :manny:

Coming from a dude who was raised in Cali onxy wasn't mainstream at all. As I kid I knew mobb, wutang, tribe, naughty by nature, pops used to play de la soul. But onyx?Nah breh, that was just a name I heard when I started crate diggin but never payed attention too. They was always that group I couldn't pronounce the name as a kid :dead:

They went double platinum I think with their first album and had a HUGE crossover hits of the early 90s with Slam. Last Dayz is a super classic single, their 3rd album had lots of features from hot rappers at the time like DMX and Pun. They even had a mother mild hit in the 00s with Slam Harder

:mjlol:a nikka negged me but yall see people in here saying the same shyt. Onyx :patrice:...lets do the math. I was born in 86. Their first joint/biggest hit was 93. I didn't listen to rap like that til I was 10. My first album was Makaveli....And I grew up in Texas. Wasnt no Onyx being played nowhere near there. Not the radio and not amongst my peers. My eastcoast exposure was Jigga, DMX, Lox, Mase, Busta, Biggie,Pun, Nore, Cam, Nas...heard of Mob Deep and MOP from reading the source and watching videos. I had to go back an fukk with albums like The Chronic, or Illmatic, all of Pac's shyt. They were a lil before my time but those artists warranted going back and listening to because they were relevant to me when i got into music.I watched Moesha as a kid. I saw this nikka "Q" in a few movies...Didnt really hear about or know about Onyx til I heard them talked about on Moesha but I didnt fukk with their music...The nikka Fredro Starr...does he have one album that at least went gold as rapper for yall to expect everybody that saw him on tv as kids to know him as a rapper? I knew him as an actor :manny: I knew of Sticky only cause he was on Snoop album.I promise u this is more common than you think east coast/early hip hop head brehs. Im only being real.:yeshrug:

Like I said breh I can't speak on everyone from the West but as a 24 year old who grew up in Cali I knew Q before I knew Fredro.

I'm 28...I had only heard of Onyx because they were referenced on Moesha. Never put it together that Fredro was in the group. I grew up seeing dude on Moesha and movies. Assumed he was an actor. Heard of Sticky Fingaz because he was on a Snoop album and I was a nolimit head. Never heard their shyt outside of Slam.:manny: Is what it is. Its like people who only know Chamillionaire for "Ridin" but I know all 76 freestyles on his "greatest hits' mixtape word for word.

they weren't that big. Lots of people liked them because they were really hardcore. I remember people used to play this skit from an onyx album all the time it was basically the only song they would play, and it was some dude threatening to shoot somebody in the head or something.
