“But but Wil Barton has one of the plus/minus in the NBA”

“Mike Malone was assistant coach of the year in 2008 he knows what he’s doing”

“H-h-he still doesn’t know what he’s doing on defense tho”

Will Barton is a good player too, Porter is a rookie basically playing on a really good contending team:yeshrug:

He’s not bad and he’s versatile on defense, but if the Nuggets really want to be a contender they need Porter to play good minutes. No one on the team can create their own offense like him, especially at his size and position.

I agree Porter would be nasty as the man on that team once he fully develops, I'm still waiting for Murray to become that Dame lite I think we know he can be

Dude has a goofy looking game but he hets buckets. I wanted Chicago to get him but we never swing for the fences

I don’t know why another team didn’t trade up to get him even if it meant redshirting him a year. A lot of players in the draft don’t pan out anyways, so why not gamble on one with a high upside? He was the #1 prospect in his class for a reason.

Chicago always picks the "safe pick" and avoids players considered a risk or injury prone mostly because they're afraid of another Derrick Rose, and they are perfectly content with being a treadmill team if they can make it to that point

I totally understand teams apprehension with drafting him (his families injury history), but sometimes you have a take a gamble. A lot of teams have been the lottery for years and still have yet to hit on a superstar.

He has a nice feel for the game on the offensive end. On the defensive end, he stays aware and looks like a good help defender. Handles are a little stiff and he finishes a little soft around the rim. Not hesitant. Adequate rebounder. Looks like he will need to develop his playmaking skills. Great upside

I think a lot of teams didn’t want to have to go through the exercise of convincing him and his mama that he needs to eat cooked food:skip:

He fell because back and lumbar injuries usually spell the end of athletic careers, even if after surgery/rehab you're still at risk for more injuries. Not to mention he didn't participate in the combine because of back spasms. Denver just missed the playoffs on the last day of the regular season and was deep at just about every position so they could afford to gamble a lottery pick.

There's a lot of hindsight coming out about the guy after these two games, crazy efficient in the games but he's still a long term health risk. He wasn't supposed to come back and do even this so kudos to him. You can't scout medical breakthroughs though, that's pretty much what this is.

Totally understandable, but would you rather draft a player that could become a perennial all-star or a player that will end up floundering around in the G-League until they end up overseas?

The Mika Bridges/Zhaire Smith pick was essentially a waste for Philly and Phoenix as neither player is doing anything notable. Why not take a gamble on a player with high upside even if you have to redshirt him? It panned out for Philly and Embiid.

Depends. If I'm a lottery team I'm there for a reason, so I'm picking the player that can play.

If I'm the up and coming Nuggets in the lottery and I'm already set whether he ever plays again or not, I'm taking MPJ.

But it’s the same lottery years picking year and year with the same crop of players that don’t pan out.

Out of all the lottery picks Phoenix has had lately, who has showed All-Star potential other than Booker or Orlando with Issac? You could even include Chicago and Atlanta.

Sometimes you have to swing for the fences and take a chance like Philly did with Embiid and that was when they were still in the rebuilding process.
