I applied and didn’t get in. Which is strange because if I remember correctly, they didn’t expect you to know anything lol… but they end up wanting ppl who were heavily experienced in the field.

True. Better off joining one of those cyber boot camps or if one of the big 4 host a “mini cyber ssc program”

Not required but it comes with a lot of weight. I would choose a candidate with a cert from them over someone with just a degree

Who said those companies had adequate cyber security teams in place? If you look at the majority of these hacks, these companies had very bad practices which tells me they didn't have a cyber security team in place or didn't listen to what they said.
