From a technical standpoint, can any director reach what Kubrick did with 2001?

I mean it's universally accepted that this is one of if not the best looking movies of all time (the Film Room voted it so)...so with tech having advanced as much as it has in the past 50 years, can any director surpass what Kubrick did? Has a director already surpassed it iyo? Will studios even put up the money needed to make that happen for this kind of film anymore?

2001 is the best movie ever made, and has some of the best visuals of any cgi or non-cgi movie ever

for god’s sake, that whole spinning spacecraft shyt. They actually built a big structure for that. Unbelievable

the visuals, the triple allegory, the story. All A+
