How is TS% calculated?

ALSO HOLLINGER CALCTS IT AS TS%: True Shooting Percentage - what a player's shooting percentage would be if we accounted for free throws and 3-pointers. True Shooting Percentage = Total points / [(FGA + (0.44 x FTA)]

How is TS% calculated?

It combines 2FG%, 3FG%, and FT%. I don't know how the exact formula is calculated but its legit and can be found on basketball reference.com

It basically lets you know how efficient the scoring is. Cause just looking at FG% doesn't let you know that. Player A could go 5/10 from 2 and score 10pts. And Player B could go 4/10 shooting 3's and score 12pts. Just looking at FG% makes it seem as though player B is less efficient than player A when in reality he is more efficient because he's scoring more points on less shots.

The only reason Kobe's FG% looks so low in comparison to MJ's is because Kobe has taken alot more 3's in his career than MJ. As a result, it looks as though he's less efficient when in reality their efficiency is pretty close cause Kobe converts alot of those 3's.

What's the difference in championships and finals mvps between those years? Serious question.

MJ obviously won 5 titles/finals MVPs during that stretch while Kobe only won 2 titles/finals MVPs. HOWEVER, remember that Kobe had to go through a rebuilding stretch from 05-07 when he played with Kwame, Smush, and Luke in the starting lineup.

The fact Kobe turned it around that quickly was pretty amazing to go from out of the playoffs in 05 to in the NBA finals in 08.

Plus this season isn't over yet. If Kobe wins the title and finals MVP this year then it would be 5 for MJ vs. 3 for Kobe.

How pathetic, you have to narrow down a window to compare them because from 21-26 it's no contest.

Also, MJ at 27 had only been in the league 6 years, Kobe was a 10 year vet.

smh

I clearly articulated the reasons that 21-26 is NOT A FAIR COMPARISON. Kobe had to share the ball with another dominant scorer in Shaq. You think MJ would've put up the numbers he did at 21-26 if he played with Wilt? Hell naw.

27-33 is actually advantageous to MJ cause he had less miles on his legs and had a superior team for most of that stretch meaning he didn't have to expend as much energy as Kobe. Kobe being 10 years in the league means he had less spring in his legs yet the numbers are alot even across the board.

Imaging if the Lakers didn't sign Shaq in 96. Do you really think Kobe's numbers would be the same from 21-26 as they were with Shaq? If you say yes, then your proving your just a hater. Without Shaq, Kobe would've had some monster statistical years in his prime. shyt he averaged 29ppg at age 22 WHILE PLAYING WITH SHAQ. If he didn't play with Shaq all those years, we would've seen multiple 35ppg seasons.

Stopped reading here :pacspit:

You're not going to change anyone's mind with these lame ass threads, and all these qualifiers you have to add are just pathetic. Here's why it's not a fair comparison, he wasn't as good, period.

If they didn't sign shaq in 96 Kobe has 2 rings and we wouldn't be having any comparison discussions
