Waryaada do we have a US plant on our hands? This article took a lot of the optimism out of me

How an American Bureaucrat Became President of Somalia.

Any particular quotes? He definitely holds American democracy in high regard and is pro-Western :mjpls: but he's not a ''plant'' per se. The MPs voted on their own accord. In fact wasn't HSM winning at first?

@Grano-Grano @Trajan @FAH1223 @Trajan

Brehs thought Farmaajo would restart the Ogaden War

Lol we don't need those problems :whoa:

We just need to be allowed to breathe for a little bit.

Being an Obama era American plant is not antithetical to being a good president :ehh:

I wouldn't be surprised if he met with Obama and his staff to prepare this whole thing. Quid pro quo, it's the game that needs to be played.

I hope so breh

Any particular quotes? He definitely holds American democracy in high regard and is pro-Western :mjpls: but he's not a ''plant'' per se.

"He earned a master’s degree in political science at New York State University in Buffalo. His thesis was titled: “U.S. Strategic Interest in Somalia.”"

"In 1999, Mohamed rallied minority voters to support Giambra, a Democrat-turned-Republican running for county executive, and Mohamed registered as a Republican."

"U.S. officials might be feeling equally sunny about his prospects. Here is a man well-versed in the ways of American politics, who is deeply popular in his country"

"According to Abdi Ismail Samatar, a University of Minnesota professor who was part of a commission appointed by parliament to observe the election process and stop the exchange of cash on the voting floor, there is little reason to believe any of the major candidates—Mohamed included—had abstained. “I am quite confident that all of the four or five major candidates were deeply implicated in the buying of votes,” Samatar told POLITICO. “That includes the incoming President Mohamed.”

I had been wondering how he managed to win against opponents who had large amounts of money/state backings... come to find out he wasn't exactly lacking in that area himself.
:gucci: this is basically his life story, which we already knew. What's deflating about this?

Unless you thought he'd be a revolutionary, well then

Honestly, I didn't know anything about his background aside from folks excitement and their belief of how clean/incorruptible he is. So yeah, I did kind of think he was a revolutionary :mjlol:

Were looking at 50 years of turmoil.if we manage to survive the first 25 years. We can start looking at ways.in which to reach the status of a developing country.

Somalia is basically a UN Trusteeship managed by the US/UK/EU and Arab Gulf states who are the main donors to the government.

There's a lot of dynamic developments with civil society and there was a lot of economic activity going on in the private sector. There are some well to do people but there's no set of oligarchs who control everything.

If Farmaajo has a government that somehow actually made small steps towards a real Somali army and police force and administered its budget efficiently and directly to the constituents... then things could definitely look up

But I'm not gonna hold my breah cause Somali politics is the worst
