I think it transitioned more then it died , just like how the awful snap era killed hip-hop. It'll come around again

When R Kelly stopped singing and started talking/quasi rapping over songs (Ignition, Thoia Thong, Hotel etc). Likes of Chris Brown, Trey Songz emulated him and eventually the genre devolved to this truly mediocre era where the Weekend, Bryson Tiller & PND are perceived as vanguards
The truth of this post stung me :wow:

Negs are off so I'll say it, Jodeci started it by making the R&B thug the norm. This reduced the number of love songs and increased the number of fukking songs. Eventually it turned R&B into Rap or some Rap hybrid.

Me and my girl was talking about this the other day. R&B is basically techno at this point. Black music in general (rap/r&b) is in a weird place right now. At first I thought I was suffering from Early Onset Larry Syndrome, but this new wave of music sounds weird as fukk in general.

It didn't die, it just has a new sound. Most of the top R&B singers aren't doing the :flabbynsick: slow dance ballads anymore because that sound is dated, as well as they've already done that. I've listened to Ne-Yo, Trey Songz, Usher, and etc say that they're moving on from the traditional R&B sound to try something new and chase that pop money. The techno-pop/rap R&B is what's "in". You may not like what R&B today sounds like but that doesn't mean it's dead. Beyoncé, Rihanna, The Weeknd, Bryson Tiller and etc are still putting up Kobe numbers in the genre

I'm gonna have to disagree. Adele just reached diamond for the second time. Second woman since Brittney Spears to have multiple diamond albums. She is covered up and singing easy listening ballad/ soul.
Sam Smith, Justin Timberlake, Bruno Mars, Miguel are out selling and or outcharting from just singing R&B/Pop/Soul with little to no edm/techno/trap that The Weekend, Bryson Tiller etc are doing. Talent and crafted music is selling.

:dahell:

Tank and Tyrese tried to bring it back but to no avail.

The same thing has happened to Gospel music as well, brethren. No one sings of the importance of living a sinless and holy life. No one sings about having a prayer life filled with fasting and dedication to building Gods kingdom. These messages have died out with this Neo-Gospel generation. Its not even Gospel anymore, its inspirational music. Big difference.

Today its all filled with hollow words and messages : Get your blessing. Get your breakthrough. Get your miracle. I want this Lord. God bless me.
Its all about impressing others with your "dance" or shouting. Lord help us all.

It's like this: a talented school band can play old school 90s rnb songs and even some Hip hop songs, and still sound fresh.

Songs today are made from a computer and have similar wavelengths and patterns of a techno song.
