ATL…overly
Every Macy's has a "holding cell" that's inside AP that they use to hold shoplifters until the police or the shoplifters parents (if they're under 18).

@LezJepzin im sorry you lost your job but why did you allow your boy to return the shoes? You know it's against policy for Sales Associates to receive a store credit in the first place. I would've have gone & found a manager or maybe even partnered with AP, no way I would've allowed a coworker's mistakes (not checking the box & not finding the original transaction to return it to your Macy's) to cost me my job

I used to be a department manager with Macy's (no longer with the company) and AP is one of the most corrupt organizations I've ever dealt with.

When I started my career there as a Sales Associate I got called into the AP (Loss Prevention at the time) office for my "suspicious" activity. They were watching me b/c I was going to my car during my lunch break and thought it was suspicious even tho i didn't have to tell them what I was doing during my break and more importantly I wasn't doing anything wrong. But I've seen more than a few AP associates and managers get fired for lying, stealing & abusing their power. I've even seen em lie to get people arrested just because a person "fit the description" :mjpls:

Because I didn't know they were in the wrong box then. He never checked. The manager approval needed was because the value of the return and to look up my purchase , which she never did.

They pose as regular customers. You've seen them before, but just didn't realize it.
Publix (southern grocery store chain) did the same thing when I worked there. At the store I worked at, it was this Haitian dude and he was damn good at spotting people.

I skimmed the article...
if she stole, then what's the problem
if she did not, then I see the problem

Removing Macy's punishment doesn't help them to deal with the criminals

fukk EM :pacspit:

Still not over what they did to me when I worked there last year. And I had the nerve to try to defend them too when they were accused of some :mjpls: shyt.

Long story short, I was terminated from my job because I unknowingly returned a pair of Cole Haan shoes that I bought in the wrong box the year before because they were hurting my feet. My coworker returned them and gave me store credit because he couldn't look up the purchase which I purchased with my prepaid Macy's Card. I asked for a supervisor to lookup the transaction but she never came down to authorize (and check the shoes to see they matched the box, which the associate didn't) .

Perfect record and I didn't know I returned the shoes in the wrong Cole Haan Box until AP(loss prevention) pointed it out when they had the shyt in front of me in their basement office two weeks later. I had the store credit which I never used and used it to wipe it off the books yet I still got fired. NONE of the managers were able to defend me (including my department MGR , who was like :wtf::damn::why: at all of it) because at Macy's , anything that goes to Loss Prevention stays in Loss Prevention. Meaning, no management or associate can vouch for you.

No other Department store has that policy.

I took my case all the way to HR at Corporate three times but failed at getting my job back for it . Of course, the other two people involved, my co worker who returned the shoes and the manager on duty got nothing :mjpls: One of the people from LP who took me to the basement office that day, openly admitted that she had "accidently" took a wallet home while doing recovery when she used to work in women's . All they did was ask for the wallet back , she did and she didn't get in trouble :mindblown:

The reason why I stopped fighting my termination was because I got another job but I think I'm going to revisit that after knowing this.

You were trying to pull some sort of scam. This much is obvious.

Thats the fukking point.... One she didnt steal, They stole from her, they illegally detained her hours in makeshift jailcell, they gave her a choice of paying a $100 fine or going home or $500 fine afterwards which amounts to extortion because she was innocent, She was illegally searched by store security not cops... Then the cherry on top they took her credit card out of her purse and swiped the money off it anyways and then had her arrested on TOP of that

I mean are you fukking serious???

They need to pay a penalty for that
Now what about the future shoplifter thief?

Hmm...call the cops. have employees hold the perpetrator, encourage timely physical altercations between innocent employees and a perpetrator, who may or may not have anything to lose, while waiting for the police?

...even if she did steal, this is a retail store that detained her in a secret jail and then tried to extort her for an arbitrary sum of money. When she didn't comply, they forcibly stole her credit card and charged it. All of that happened and she didn't even steal.

Why even reply to to the thread if you admit to not even reading the article? Pointless.

So because it's a retail store, they don't have the right to hold a perpetrator and try to get their value back? But if it's a homeowner or car jacking victim, then it's different?

If Macy's has a history of discrimination and profiling, then let the punishment fit the crime

Removing their ability to deal with real shoplifters to punish them for discrimination and profiling of non-shoplifters is ridiculous and is emotional based
