If the mavs didn’t relocate to another city during the worst competitive era of their entire history (the 1990s) they won’t move now. They’re too ingrained in the city’s culture and sports scene. They will easily stay in the 5th biggest media market in the US. Their new owners have deep pockets too.

Vegas is a much smaller media market than Dallas. Half of the Las Vegas population are out of state and foreign tourists

Yeah this was my point in the other thread. It doesn’t make sense for the league to move from a top 5 media market and still rapidly growing metro to a small market. In fact, Vegas is over saturated as it is now. But hey, Seattle moved to OKC which was dumb as well.

They don’t want to repeat the Seattle mistake with Dallas.

The SuperSonics left just before the Seattle tech boom of the late 2000s and early 2010s who brought massive population growth , jobs and financial wealth to the city. They abandoned the 15th media market in the USA and 22nd in North America for nothing.

The Seattle area has very comparable population numbers as Boston, Minneapolis, San Francisco and Detroit. Let’s imagine the Celtics, Timberwolves, Warriors, and pistons all moving out of their own cities in the same year. It would be a dagger to the credibility of the league.

Seattle welcomed a new nhl expansion team the Seattle kraken 4 years ago. They have filled The void in Seattle sports that the relocation of the sonics created and are the current winter team for the city. (Until the Sonics eventually come back this decade )
