If Take Care is a classic then GKMC is the template for rapping.

I've been bumping it since it came out, every single day. And ten years from now I'll still be playing it. fukk what other people think.

Nobody is being force-fed anything. You don't have to agree the album is classic. I don't think the album is classic...not because I don't think the quality is up to par, but because I just tend to wait longer than a few months to say shyt like that. This is a forum, cats are gonna stan and cats are gonna hate. So there are gonna be pleas copped/flimsy justifications and irrational gripes. My whole point is that the culture, something a lot bigger than the collection of coli posters, is going to dictate the legacy this album has.

And the whole industry thing: the industry can put an artist out there but they can't force people to feel that artist. A lot of dudes point to B.E.T award show appearances and the like to say he's being forced down everyone's throats and I think that's off base. You can plaster someone on screen all you want but that doesn't necessarily compel people to fukk with that artist. Kendrick got an overwhelming amount of love from critics, industry types but most importantly by the fans. Dude's on his way to platinum and the negative opinions about GKMC are far and few in between.

As for as breaking down ratings for particular songs, that's an exercise in futility, imo. "Real" is the only song I'm not a fan of on the album and "Compton" is whatever to me, but I think every other song on there is stellar. Other dudes feel differently. Classics are judged as a whole at the end of the day. I can pick any album considered classic, make a thread about it with numbered ratings for each song and there would be disagreements and even people straight up saying they didn't like certain tracks. Regardless, those albums made their mark already and are cemented in hip hop history as classic.

Best post in the whole thread.

cant wait for kendrick to drop another potential classic, dude is impressive

I don't think he'll be able to top gkmc, I don't even expect the album to be topped this year tbh

Not a big Kendrick fan at all. But I did think the album was a classic. Great concept that was executed with songs ranging from good to great. Album had vision and focus, which is very rare nowadays. Album does standout as a unique and masterful executed project imo. There may be other albums that I like more personally, but I wouldn't consider them a classic, because those albums don't necessarily separate themselves as something special.

bytch Don't Kill My Vibe
Money Trees
Good Kid
Maad City
Poectic Justice
Sing About Me
Dying of Thirst

are all great songs in my opinion.

Definitely a classic, and I was born in the 80's, so miss me with the "you kids" talk.
I was born in the early 80's and it's a certified classic bunch of :flabbynsick: taste having nikkas commenting that think classic albums can't come out past the 90's or not be made by an artist that's not a 90's rapper.
