nikkas can't even agree on what a classic is & isn't & wonder why nobody takes the opinions of "Hip Hop Purists" seriously...

because they be standing next to a girl texting they friend like "yo look at this girl bruh. look at her."nikkas can't even agree on what a classic is & isn't & wonder why nobody takes the opinions of "Hip Hop Purists" seriously...![]()

Nobody is being force-fed anything. You don't have to agree the album is classic. I don't think the album is classic...not because I don't think the quality is up to par, but because I just tend to wait longer than a few months to say shyt like that. This is a forum, cats are gonna stan and cats are gonna hate. So there are gonna be pleas copped/flimsy justifications and irrational gripes. My whole point is that the culture, something a lot bigger than the collection of coli posters, is going to dictate the legacy this album has.The problem is that people here are being force-fed that classic label, and it annoys them. It reaches a point where it just seems like an industry-wide push, and that all of its shortcomings are overlooked. I've never seen anything like it. But just look at this very thread and all the different angles people are using to justify its classic status and you can see why a bunch of people have theface. "Yeah that song isn't great by itself or all, but in the context of the album I got to give it like a 5 out 5." "Yeah he wasn't spitting on that track, but the complexity of his flow at the current point = 5 out 5." What kind of shyt is....
THANK YOU MY nikka. I would give you 5 million daps if I could. The problem is that people here are being force-fed that classic label, and it annoys them. And the whole industry thing: the industry can put an artist out there but they can't force people to feel that artist. A lot of dudes point to B.E.T award show appearances and the like to say he's being forced down everyone's throats and I think that's off base. You can plaster someone on screen all you want but that doesn't necessarily compel people to fukk with that artist. Kendrick got an overwhelming amount of love from critics, industry types but most importantly by the fans. Dude's on his way to platinum and the negative opinions about GKMC are far and few in between.
As for as breaking down ratings for particular songs, that's an exercise in futility, imo. "Real" is the only song I'm not a fan of on the album and "Compton" is whatever to me, but I think every other song on there is stellar. Other dudes feel differently. Classics are judged as a whole at the end of the day. I can pick any album considered classic, make a thread about it with numbered ratings for each song and there would be disagreements and even people straight up saying they didn't like certain tracks. Regardless, those albums made their mark already and are cemented in hip hop history as classic.
fukk IS WRONG WITH THESE nikkaS MANWait.
Hold up.
Dudes saying TM 101 ain't a classic?
We need a board...![]()

just say you aint feeling it, but don't try to knock the acclaim of an album just cause it wasn't your cup of tea. i'm not gonna sit there and say cannibal ox, company flow, digable planets do not have incredible albums or true classics, because they've built that reputation in the canon even though i personally do not love those albums
since im not gonna trim down my opinion to be on some politically correct shyt to appease people in here, i will focus on this part of ya post only
whats the difference between can ox cold vein's CLASSIC and gkmc's CLASSIC, is the statement thats been repeated 45 times thus far in this thread "the press/popularity/sales/ of gkmc means its a classic". cold vein is a classic with minimal all that. half this board never heard the album. so how could it be classic? does it live on by different standards? zero radio play, zero press, zero everything and its still a classic.so why is everyone in this thread using gkmc's popularity as its crutch to classic.
im just seeing a lotta yes men in here. catching a major hipster vibe. heads need to stop bytching about those who really feel it and give reasons its one of ya fav albums ever. cause thats what a classic is. so far only 1/10 have even tried dropping an original reason from their heart on why they like it while the otrhe r9/10 just repeating some typical yes man bullshyt
at this cyclical i'm right and you're wrong bullshyt. chalk it up to you not feeling the album. if you feel it is not a classic, that's fine and your own opinion is valid, but gkmc is a classic to a lot of people not to mention saying its 'nowhere near close' is just ludicrous. you don't like the album great get it off your chest you sound whiny tho 'everyone's a hipster' 'fukk the critical acclaim' 'forget that people find the music appealing'. 'this isn't classic because its not illmatic or doggystyle' 'i'm not a sheep' 'we're all yes men' 'i don't like his voice cause it's different than past voices i've liked'.
thanks for joining the thread breh, im glad you can be with us *i will read tomorrowto me, gkmc is different. it's a young man in his early 20s exposing his soul, community, everything he sees right and wrong with the world summing up his real life experiences into a well-crafted woven story. songs like backseat freestyle have their place in that they show that youthful childish side of him, while sing about me and maad city show that grown up mature side of him. i don't know how someone cant hear money trees and call that a 5/5 damn near perfect song which i guarantee will be a future west coast summer classic. bytch don't kill my vibe is another great single, something people can lay back and relate to.
i don't really have to go into why i like every song, and for albums I find classic it's almost like the words above are too generic and what I think of the album is of more worthy praise which is why I'm glad professional writers and reviewers have been able to find those words. they're not a crutch for anyone's opinion, they're just able to pinpoint why exactly this album is special.
i'll admit the first 3-4 times i heard it i couldn't focus on the lyrics or the story cause his writing was a little dense. once i bought the cd and listened to it a few times straight through, it really hit me how it just blew a lot of what i've heard the last 10 years out the water. i haven't felt a CD from a youngster like this since maybe below the heavens by blu and exile
i'm moving this paragraph to the end rather than opening in a hostile manner:

'this isn't classic because its not illmatic or doggystyle' 'i'm not a sheep' 'we're all yes men' 'i don't like his voice cause it's different than past voices i've liked'.
To be honest, I don't really see why we have to justify it's a classic when you're reasons are generally some variation of the vague ones I've listed above. Enlighten me though

....or maybe I just fell for the hype train
....but it hasn't happened before so ima go wit my gut....he definitly got growth to do to be complete, and I'm on the fence about "classic"...if I didn't initially like it for real its hard to go back and feel like its classic now even tho I enjoy it more now
