HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

That album and the legion of corny faux alt "real" albums that followed in the same vein emerged out of the death of hip hop's only legitimate underground. Art Beezy is spot on with this shyt, cat have rewritten history and pretty much reinvented what the term "underground" meant.
Dudes actually believing this was real hip hop and original creative music. Some of the worst and annoying music and fans came out of this movement.

That fact about Rupert Murdock is nothing new. His sons liked rap, and they were rich. Blah.

And are you saying Rawkus was a pro white agenda? The same label that pushed Black on Both Sides WAAAAAAY harder than anything else there? What's so pro-white about Blackstarr?

While I hate most Def Jux fans, I don't think they killed the underground, not so much as they just dorked it the fukk out. The Internet in general was the nail in the coffin.

Edit: in hindsight, I should've said that I hate the stereotypical def jux fan.

rawkus was just a completely hidden agenda, period.

I am not about to grasp straws internally about what they fully were up to.
when, it is completely obvious.
if you are not trying to champion blackstar, individually.
you should objectively be looking at the fact they lied.
plus, the cognitive possibilities of why , they lied.....
on top of the agenda of company flow.

One of my favorite albums of all time, regardless of genre.

Good album, and perhaps the only album I can really listen to by El-P

:dwillhuh:

I wouldn't say it's wack music, but El-P is an acquired taste.

acquired taste,...
you mean, you have come to digest wack shyt and give it, a pass.

his whole, movement was embraced to mean make wack music.
that gives priority to white guys who are wack making rap.
just because they are white and purposefully trying to be disenfranchised and wack.
all behind the guise of don't support major label rap.
being back by a culturaly fraudulent Rupert Murdock based company.

Two black gentlemen were in company flow for this album (not to mention the guests on the record).

Will agree with your sentiment about rupert murdoch backing (via his kid). I never liked that -- but some great albums came out of rawkus in the late 90s.

Also, I'm not sure how many white MCs careers were birthed by this album (other than El-P). Eminem, non phixion and others were already out when Funcrusher came out.

In short, the bulk of premise is ludicrous. Funcrusher was a different type of record, but it was neither wack nor disenfranchised from the culture.

nikka,..puh-lease...

I was the next top drawing act in the underground.
the only reason I was not part of the top drawing act, was.
the light atmosphere's slug got for smashing on el-p, insinuating and propagating a racist agenda, changed that.
so, kill the noise................
also,....both the other two members were some of the huffest of all time.

again, company flow were just as caustic to the underground and the culture as puff.

I'm sure you're right. Slug, who's grandfather was black, as was his original partner in atmosphere, was propagating a racist agenda.

Not sure who you are, or when you were the "next top drawing act," but I was around the midwest back then too. I'm not going to disagree with your sentiment about the hip-hop infinity crowd, but I'm not sure they had the importance you're giving them -- and I would also bet that the very crowd you're disparaging was also against company flow for not being "advanced enough."

I'm not disagreeing with the idea that what you're saying actually exists. I just think you're misplacing the blame on Company Flow/Rawkus/NY underground at the time.

I don't have to google. I was around during that time.
I was writing for elemental magazine in 00/01, and a number of sites before that. I've done interviews with/stories about a number of these acts (including sole, atmosphere, all natural, aceyalone, and many others), and was around the midwest underground at the time.

I understand that Slug and El-P are friends and collaborators. But, so far, all you've managed to do is connect them, which is common knowledge (El-P's def jux artists toured extensively with rhyme sayers artists).
You've simply made no case to support the "co flow is racist" premise. You don't have to like their music, or the album being discussed in this thread ... but it's pretty clear to me you've overplayed your hand.
