man, how is everyone hating on this so much?
after the stream, then listening to this a few times through, I think it's great. It surpassed my expectations
what do yall mean there's no specific sound or concept on this album?
If I were to ever test drive a Lambo, I would fully expect this album to be in the stereo. Laugh all you want at how ridiculous that visual is, but this album is more or less driving an exotic car, reaching in your pocket and feeling a few rolled up bands of money, on your way home to fukk your 10/10 woman, and feeling the love from everyone, everywhere you go.
"Oh it's all about clubs and this and that." Yes, and no. Sure, the production is aimed towards what we've known out of Atlanta for a while, club music. This is more, and Future has, in my mind, achieved a FEEL throughout the album for where he is trying to take the listener. I hope this doesn't come across as me disrespecting the audio equipment or speakers that you used to listen to this album, but ...you HEARD the album right? Start to finish? No skips?
I'm not floored by the album, but I think dismissing this album is a mistake. Especially with warmer weather here. Believe it or not, this is a mood album. It's not about a dance, or attempts to wow the audience with amazing tales of a drug empire. It's about feeling a certain way. Being a certain type of person, celebrating success, but striving for more.
Future has always been about swag, and gliding through life on a different plane. I think this is great insight into that, and an amazing effort. I think it has a unique sound very particular to Future's sound and his vision for what he wanted this album to be.
I'm putting it around a 3.5/5 or 4/5, and I would definitely put it above Pluto. If you took out 2 or 3 tracks, it would be receiving way more praise. Everything about this is Future entirely, from start to finish, both album and career. I understand the progression, and where he was going with this album. I think he brought it all together fairly well.
Look Ahead - The first time I heard it, it definitely got my attention. There's not a lot of replay value, but it's a serviceable intro.
T-Shirt - How can you listen to the first 30 seconds of this song and not experience the feeling of being in a Lambo, or a dark club? I think that THIS song is the pace-setter and true intro to the album. Has a dark feel, but it definitely has blue neon framing the entire experience.
Move That Dope - picks up right where T-Shirt leaves off. Dark song, but powerful. It has the same dark feeling that Yeezus shot for. Right there with that vibe, IMO. It's POWER and PRIDE. Exploration of the ego of man, and what it takes.
My Momma - Speaking of ego and pride lmao. Straight song.
Honest - Again, this has that futuristic sound to it, dark but that blue neon feel again.
I Won - I get it, everyone thinks this is corny. This isn't the first time he's made this song anyway, so it's not really a shocker. The production and Kanye feature IS a treat though. In my opinion this is the first bright track on the album. Very chill, very happy, way to go. Kanye's flow (not necessarily lyrics) over the production makes me excited for Ye's next project.
Never Satisfied - I wish the version I had wasn't only 2 minutes or whatever. This is quintessential Drake. The Houston hummmm. It sounds like the space behind sunglasses on a night out. Seeing everything but having an almost out of body experience. This is still respecting that central theme of the album rolled out from T-Shirt.
I Be U - Again, futuristic Miami sound.
Covered N Money - I feel like I've heard 100 Atlanta rappers have the mid-album rant. This is that. Also, I can't pinpoint it, but I feel like this is the first true adversity track. This song is like a soundtrack for all the problems in his life that he has to address. The audience is being introduced to the evils of the album. Every good storyteller (Future is a good storyteller) knows how and when to introduce the villain.
Special - still has that futuristic feel. The cartel guitar...whew. More Lambo music, big time.
Benz Friendz - another treat. And a Dungeon Fam shoutout.
Blood Sweat Tears - A triumphant track, another bright track going back to the I Won song (the other triumph of the album)
Big Rube - Dungeon Fam and walking, talking, truth
Side Effects and I'll Be Yours probably could have missed the cut and this album would have been ok without them. I get why they're there, but they kind of dilute the overall feel to the album and direction.
How Can I Not - dark, futuristic, catchy, almost an outro. I'd really say that the "Club tracks" start here.
shyt - dark, almost demonic (three 6 reference) futuristic, club banger
Karate Chop - old faithful
