I could definitely believe most of these nikkas when they say they don't listen primarily to Hip-Hop. I've heard of a lot of top tier professionals not indulging in their "thing" as a passtime. A lot of these guys (esp. the ones who've already sort of "made it" and not just aspiring and hence staying apprised of the latest music to keep on top of their games) don't willingly listen to rap all that much if at all really and that's not hard to believe at all. Meaning, in their cars, it probably only constitutes a small percentage of their music collection; at their homes, same shyt. When they're chillin' at their hotels or whatever, pop rap is probably the last thing on their mind. It's that not they're saying it to come across as booshie or trendy or whatever, it's just...rap becomes a fukking chore to listen to after a while, especially when you've reached a certain age of maturity, and it's what you do for a living and have to encounter it more often than you'd ideally like to. Living a full-fledged rap lifestyle in 2013 is probably the corniest shyt ever.

There's nothing wrong with not knowing each and every release but there
is something wrong when you make music you don't personally enjoy
listening to.
You got dudes in other genres of music that KNOW their scene.
You ask a metal dude whose popular in his sub-genre
or what bands is he listening too, I bet you he'll rattle
off his contemporaries AND people you wouldn't expect
