Neither has Al. He just got his wake up call in last week's episode.

Their relationship was bound to implode because Earn is a terrible manager, but Al didn't want to work with what he was given.

Hopefully the finale sees them come to that understanding, but I don't see how they reconcile after this.

This is gonna sound fukked up but im just gonna say it and then explain why.

It ain’t on Alfred to be on point. All fault lies directly on Earn.

The reason i say this is for a couple reasons

1). Alfred told Earn at the VERY BEGINNING of episode 1 during the FIRST scene they were together in what time it was. Al didn’t give two fukks about rap. One of Darius’s first lines of spoken dialogue is “Rap is D-E-A-D DEAD!” Al threw out that mixtape to get paid right quick. It was EARN who came into the picture with this great and brilliant plan to manage him. To take him further than a street level one hit wonder. Remember, Alfred REJECTED Earn at first. Earn had to PROVE his worth by paying $500 to get Paperboi on the radio. Thats when things started to take off.

And even THEN Al was a hothead who was ready to throw it all away and shoot a nikka over a car mirror...

This should’ve told Earn all he needed to know about who he was dealing with. A talented, albeit lazy, drug dealing, hot head who has no true ambition beyond local steet fame.

You wanna deal with a nikka like that? Then you have to DEAL with a nikka like that. You have to constantly be proving to this nikka that your vision has merit. That there is a true future for him beyond drug dealing. Earn has FAILED to do this beyond episode one.

2). Earn’s leadership qualities are lacking. Every “adventure” that Earn leads them into is marked by failure. How many times is Al, a nikka who told you ge didn’t really want to be a rapper in the first place, supposed to watch this nikka fail? Hell his own chick Van had to call Al for assistance when she was taking the piss test. She couldn’t rely on Earn, she had to rely on Alfred. Every situation that leads to problems (outside of Woods) is directly linked to Earn’s incompetence. Earn KNEW that Traci was an ex con who, even though he was a fukk up, desperately wanted to legitimize himself (as evidenced in Sportin Waves). A REAL manager would’ve sat Traci’s ass down and told him “look. You wanna tag along? You want this $200? Cool, your security. But don’t get all crazy and start fukking with the wrong people. This is about Paperboi’s image and career. He eats, then WE eat. This is your test. Don’t fukk up”

But Naw, he wanna get mad and lose his cool and fight a nikka he KNOWS he can’t beat. Making him look EVEN MORE like dead weight.

3). Alfred’s job as the rapper is to RAP. He’s dropped the mixtape, he’s dropped several songs. People fukk with him. Earn has completely FAILED to put Al in a position where he feels valued for his music. If he KNOWS that Al wouldn’t go for shyt like “rap snacks” he should have only presented it to him as a stepping stone. “The company is a huge fan Al. I didn’t go to them they came to US. You promote with them now and later on your looking at your OWN line of snacks, not just chips.” Make this nikka feel good. Make him feel empowered. Make him feel VALUED.

4). Earn is pathetic at even the basic shyt. You know Al is a weedhead? A REAL manager would’ve made sure there was weed on HAND at all times. Made sure that, if Al wasn’t getting paid he was at least put in the nicest hotel available. The crazy chick would’ve gladly come to HIM. Told her little horrifying dream, topped him off. And then Al could’ve told her to kick rocks. The fantasy would’ve been fulfilled for both. And Al would’ve been safe and sound.

What's on the laptop that's so important that it would make Earn flip like that? Or maybe it was just the principal of him feeling violated with his belongings being messed with and some gone. Either way though he's incompetent as a manager Paper Boi cant front like Earn didn't say leave Tracey at home. He could see a disaster coming the whole time.

:dahell:

Is this a serious question? Earn don't have disposable income, so him losing his laptop is a big blow. I know people personally, who would work a part-time job, save up to get their "gear" or equipment for music, then quit. Once something happens to their shyt, they set back like a muhfukka cause they broke.

:deadmanny:

Who knows how long it'll take Earn to get a new laptop, let alone losing all the files on that bytch. Any creative or manager would be HOT losing their laptop, ESPECIALLY a broke nikka like Earn.
there's probably something important saved on his laptop

remember the jacket from last season?

both earn and al have issues with accountability. earn for not accepting he provided questionable accommodations and al for being willfully ignorant to tracy being a liability.

earn seemed too nonchalant, unaccommodating and aloof to be a manager of paper boi's notoriety... it was the practical decision decision for paper boi to look for other options. he may encounter a new set of problems with clark county's manager, though :francis:

God damn he didn't have to beat Earn like that:wow:

Well....he did, but I didn't wanna see Earn take that L. He's definitely fukkin up as a manager. How the fukk you gonna have popular artist stay at some Instagram bytch's crib? How you got an popular artist not getting paid for shows? How do you not diffuse the situation between Tracy and the crazy chick before it gets out of hand? How you try to fight a jail nikka that's bigger than you? That shyt pissed me off. Folks squander opportunities.

Not sure about y'all, but if someone fukked up my clothes I would be tight. Losing my laptop RIGHT NOW would be a setback for me, and I'm more established than Earn. So yeah, I totally understand that. His frustration was from him totally mismanaging that situation.

Also, when did Al get his car back?

As someone else stated, this all entirely lay on Earn. The seeds shown in season one, even in the very first episode exposed that Earn is a leech, a parasite. He doesn't care about nobody but himself, yet isn't willing to do things to make himself better and also plays the victim card. To put it bluntly, Earn is the ghetto version of Walter White, in which someone who appears to be a good guy, is really the true villain who causes other peoples lives to be spun around in circles. Hell, you can even say the premise of Atlanta is similar to Breaking Bad where instead of coming up in the drug game, it's coming up in the rap game and it still poisoning people's lives in the process.

The parallels are almost uncanny. You have Earn and Walter White in so-called desperation of needing money, because of a situation where with Walt it is medical bills and with Earn it is rent/child support. You have Alfred who dabbles in doing rap as a hobby and Jesse Pinkman who dabbled in selling meth both without any kind of goals at all until they linked up with Earn/Walter White. And of course you have the Van/Skyler comparison. Darius/Saul Goodman and how their seasons go from being light into dark. People forget that season one of Breaking Bad was mostly a lot of comical mishap adventures then it led into a darker tone from season 2 on forward. The trajectory of Atlanta feels similar to that as Earn becomes more darker within himself and it affects everybody around him. Now Alfred is fully transform into Paperboi almost similar to Walter White to Heinsenberg. Hell, you can even say that County Clark is Gus Fring in which Paperboi wants to reach the level of Clark and eventually (my prediction) turn into adversaries like Hank and Gus were partners turn adversaries. The tumultuous relationship of Earn and Paperboi is already established now similar to Hank and Jesse. I guarantee that like Hank wants to keep Jesse around and willing to manipulate the situation in his favor, Earn is going to find a way to manipulate or sabotage Paperboi's success so Paperboi would reluctantly return back to Earn.

The end of this episode was tough to watch, but realistic and well-executed.

The fact of the matter is, Alfred would be better off without Earn. Everywhere he goes, people recognize him and praise his music, but the money he's making does not reflect that. Because his manager just doesn't have the experience or the connections to make sure he gets what's coming to him.

Al knows that, and deep down, Earn knows that. But blood has been enough to keep him on the team up to this point. But like Al says, that only goes so far. Sticking with Earn has basically been nothing more than charity in the past, and would be shooting himself in the foot in the future, and Earn as much as admitted it to his uncle in the first episode of this season. That adds an extra layer of poignancy and humiliation to the inevitable firing.

The juxtaposition of a literal and figurative black eye for Earn at the end was a nice touch too.

This isn’t a Childish Gambino origin story. Earn will NEVER become a rapper and all the “connects” he has are borderline bullshyt.

Earn has really only ever been shown to make legitimate business connections TWICE in the entire series.

Once in season 1 when they went to the charity basketball game and the white lady finessed him into the upstairs party. He was taking cards from people who worked with commercials and marketing.

Once in season 2 when he got Paperboi on that streaming service.

Earn is a nikka who let someone like Traci finesse him out of FOUR THOUSAND DOLLARS

Earn is a nikka who instead of saving his money and getting an apartment wants to spend a night out “stunting” on people.

Earn is a nikka who, instead of booking a hotel, would rather have his marquee client spending the night in a crazy college girl’s apartment.

Looking at all of this, would YOU want that type of nikka as a manager:usure:

That ass whooping he got was a wake up call. “nikka you aren’t special. You gotta WORK just like everybody else.” Earn ain’t been putting in no real work.

His “business” decisions are all shyt as well. This dude made a 5k deal with a club promoter and didn’t secure any contract? Didn’t get half up front? Had to spend the entire night chasing the owner is only to get $750 and have Alfred put himself in a situation where he had to literally BEAT the money out of the guy.
yea earn fukkin up

but the show is about showing his fukk ups

paperboi on some bullshyt to tho

fukkin with Traci was his idea

now he saw Clark county c00ning for his spot

is he gonna do that when Clark county manager comes to him with that bullshyt?

cuz he wasn't with it when earn had him up there at the offices.

With that you can argue PB aint let earn do his job. He said no to T, and pb overruled him. Earn is the manger and technically should be charge security, the venue and etc. Aint no other manager gone put up w/ pb shyt. Earn lost just as much as he did.
