No but they have a deal with MS where they basically get a small percentage of future digital sales coming from whatever consoles they sell. So if I understand correctly, if someone buys something off the MS store on an Xbox purchases through GameStop, they get a piece of that

It has little to do with that. It's the combination of an activist investor takeover and retail investors noticing the short interest on the stock and deciding to jump in and push the price higher to force multiple short squeezes where the stock had to be purchased to cover the short position.

It was the perfect storm. Needless to say though I knew what Wallstreetbets was I paid little attention to it. They have my full attention now. Multimillionaires have been made off this scheme from a $50K something investment.
