Man. Something about Hit Man has me :mjlol:

The hook. The line about clipping someone in the club and dancing right past them.

:heh:

This song would be corny if done by anyone else but Gang Starr.

this has my dying everytime too i thought i was the only one....the sound affects of the shooter at the end is sick too

I'm loving the album.

Hearing Guru over Primo's beats again is a vibe that can't really be explained. The album is dope, and it sounds like they may have had actual tracks recorded that chilled in the stash for a minute. These don't really sound like joints that Preme pieced together after the fact. And I can appreciate that. Really great album from one of my favorite groups of all-time. I think it's actually a better listen than The Ownerz was.
Exactly on the border. The ONLY small tell is the shortness of some of the songs. It sounds like he had verses here or there that may not have been able to be collaged together to make full songs. For example Bring it Back Here and So Many Rappers. I think that’s one reason it’s so guest heavy.

I don’t mind though.

BTW is this the first time Talib has spit over Premier beats?
:jbhmm:

And this is random but I wish Evidence was on here. He is a great slow flow emcee in the same vein as Guru, and he and Premier have made a lot of bangers this decade. Ev has been heavily influenced by Gang Starr. Not to mention Guru was on his group’s biggest song, Worst Comes to Worst.

Guru and Ev over Preem would sound fresh. :wow:

The whole song has now become one of my favorite Gang Starr joints. I can’t stop playing it. It’s a song that only they could get away with. Any other rapper/producer combo trying to rap those lyrics or even that song concept would get a massive :what: from everyone.

They made a totally ridiculous concept sound so dope. And Q-Tip was the perfect choice for that over-the-top hook.

Hit Man highlights the intangible dopeness of Guru as an emcee. He ain’t for everyone I guess. But if you catch it then you really catch it.

Actually enjoying the album...with what Preme was able to work with, you can tell he didn't put out a lazy effort into crafting it. He really wanted to keep the legacy alive and I respect it. The album definitely stuck with the Gang Starr sound and feel. RIP Guru...
I think part of it too is this is the first project in years that Preem has done where he wasn’t confined or forced to work in the parameters of sampling one artist. On the PRhyme albums he had to sample nothing but Adrian Younge on the 1st and Antman Wonder on the 2nd.

There’s a behind the scenes/making of PRhyme 1 video where and he says outright that it’s frustrating and he wishes he didn’t have to do it.

I think this is him not feeling restricted as well as obviously putting in extra effort since it’s he and Guru’s legacy.

I'm surprised anybody thinks it sounds like original tracks. It definitely sounds like Premo pieced it together like a jigsaw puzzle, maybe it's only obvious to people who produce. You can tell from what sounds like reused or previously discarded hooks, changes in vocal quality and tone, Gurus verses sounding unfinished or demo quality in places.

Plus with the mixed quality of the beats it feels like a weak entry for Gang Starr.

Theres a few good songs, no way is it better than The Ownerz which has actual fully formed songs and consistent production.

I don’t know how much money would be in a Jeru and Premo album in 2020, but I’d cop CD/vinyl without hearing a single song.
You said it yourself. There are people (me included) that would check for a new Jeru/Premo project. The international touring would probably justify making it. I think this song is undisputed proof Premo brings the best out of Jeru. This is the best he's sounded in a long time.

Just started spinning now , Hit Man beat is ridiculous, song is 5 mic material.

Why isn’t Royce rapping on beats like this?
Royce isn’t rapping on beats like this because for some stupid reason someone behind the scenes with PRhyme insists on a dumb gimmick for Preem to only sample one source/artist per album. And I don’t think it‘s Preem because he said he hated it on their first album

When you leave him alone he can clearly still make magic.

And I agree on Hit Man being a 5 mic song and Royce bodying this verse. Group Home tied the song together too.
