Going w/ Kidd, could help his team get the W in many different ways. Most importantly he makes everybody else on the team better.

Why are people bringing up Payton's career's stats? His stats suffered because of his last 3 years in the NBA. They don't tell the whole story.

Also when Kidd went to the finals the eastern conference was ASS. He gets WAAAY to much credit for that.(sort of like Iverson)The minute it got slightly better the nets were never heard from again.

The only time he got out of Rd one in the west was when Duncan was injured in 00'

He still averaged 28 minutes a game his final 3 years.:manny:

You have to admit his playoff career average of 14 points and 5 assist has to be:krs: in terms of mediocrity for a so called great player?

Mostly all great players spend their final years in decline.

But at the end of the day, their career stats will still stack up to prove their greatness.

Payton's don't.Like I said, Payton put up his best stats from 99-'03 when the Sonics were mediocre at best.

He wouldn't have led the Nets to back to back finals because he wasn't the kind of point guard who dominated games by getting his teammates involved. That's what J Kidd did for that Nets team.He brought out the best in guys like Kerry Kittles...Richard Jefferson...Keith Van Horn etc.....those are not exactly marquee names, but J Kidd is one of those rare pg talents who not only brings out the best in his teammates, he helps them to play above and beyond their natural talent level.

I'm not saying GP was some scrub.Hell naw.....He could leave his mark on games.

But as far as taking him over a unique/once every 20 years pg like J Kidd:blink:...nah

So let me get this straight -- everyone who says Payton keeps bringing up how he was so much of a better scorer than Kidd, yet he only averaged a whopping 3 pts/game more for his career? This is one of those threads that really exposes people smh.

I'm taking the glove on this one. Who can actually say that he stood his own guarding the GAWD :jawalrus: one on one defensively and actually make him somewhat human when guarding him in the finals. Jordan only dropped 30 on him once out of the 6 times he matched up with him, which was probably the least productive Jordan was in all of the finals he played in. Payton gots it.
smh at people trying to say Kidd taking the Nets to the finals back to back as if its a really big thing to do. the east was so f**kin weak anyone could have made it to the finals. VC's Raptors coulda made the finals if he made that late game winner against Philly. Those bum Celtics with just Piru P and Walker almost made it too. The east was so wack since Jordan retired until 'Sheed went to the Pistons to give the East a much need help due to how wack the east got. Also, sweeping and manhandling The Dream's Rockets all the time when they played. The Rockets didn't want no problems of the Sonic's in the 90's, they destroyed them. J Kidd is that dude though still, but I'm taking the glove on this one. J Kidds best season was probably when he took the Nets to the finals in 02, in which people say he shoulda won the MVP award, but shoot terrible like 37 percent or something like that? But, both are great PG and are top 10 PG of all time, but Imma go with Payton on this one.

looking back, how the f**k did Payton become so useless and terrible in the 2004 playoffs with the Lakers again? I kept on remembering in late games they would replace Fisher in late game situations. I'm not sure if it was injures like Malone's cuhz the Lakers were killing it in that 03-04 season, the team started like 18-3 or something like that, but once MAlone got injured the Lakeset was never the same nor as dominate.

This is the dumbest shyt consistently said. ANYBODY could have made it through the East those years, it just so happens the Nets were the ones doing it?

oh no I'm not saying that its bad thing to make it to the finals or anything, but the competition come on now, you gotta admit in the East was so wack and trash bruh. As good as those Nets teams were, the competition they were facing compared to the West was terrible. I don't think more than half of those teams in the playoffs for the East would not have made the playoffs in the West. Respect to Kidd and the NEts for making it, but once again, looking back it isn't as great of an accomplishment due to how inferior the East was compared to the West.

That conference was trash tho. If the nets were in the west they'd be an 7th or 8th seed getting knocked out in the first rd every year(like what was happening to Kidd When he was in the west)

Once the pistons got on in 04' then the heat, then eventually bron's Cavs the Nets were non factors.
