Not surprised

Especially when they have parents who themselves are more focused on the present gadgets and streaming and never told or showed their kids what DVD PLAYERS WAS, VHS WAS, etc etc

This question is being asked in 2025 so yes, the VCR is ancient. It isnt relevant to those kids and anyone in their circle so it isn’t out of the ordinary that they don’t know what it looks like in first glance. I mentioned the telegraph and mimeograph because it’s all the same. Irrelevant technology that isn’t used.
Breh, stop. You just making it worse because your false equivalent examples.

You made a terrible comparison and got rightfully called out for it, it's ok. :russ:

It's an ancient device not relevant since 2001, which predates the birth of much of Gen Z.

How many of yall even know what a telegraph machine looks like? How about a mimeograph machine?
The mimeograph machine room was where you went to get your first buzz in elementary school.
The telegraph machine was where Jimmy Olsen got the hot news to give to Clark Kent.

Bruh, I don't care. This is a silly point detracting from the overall discussion.

Were either of those popular mainstream consumer home media products? Saying you don't know what a VHS is is like saying you don't know what a cassette tape, DVD, or CD is. It's like saying you don't know what a camera is, camera film is, or a camcorder. We aren't that far removed from any of this stuff. Some of it barely stopped being sold when they were born which means as children it would still be around houses. Even today you can go in homes and see a VCR under a TV and VHS tapes around.

This has nothing to do with being 'old'. It's moreso those kids are just dumb.

Everyone of us knows what a vinyl record player is despite not being born in the 1940s.

Also the VCR didn't last long at all.

I work in a job that has me in and out of random homes all day and I see VCRs all the time (especially the DVD VCR combo units) and VHS tapes on shelves. I'm not showing my age I'm talking about what's out there. It's like seeing a Wii sitting on a shelf. This stuff didn't vanish from the earth the moment it stopped getting sold in stores.

If these people have grandparents and great grand parents that stuff is around.
