They lost a lot of public goodwill, that's for sure. Squandered a huge layup after such a strong electoral victory. The optics of this are terrible. They were a few moves from checkmate and they resigned the game.
What indication have Republicans given that they will play ball with the ACA. If there's another shutdown, now the Republicans know that the Dems will just fold again after a long enough time.
This is shameful. Why not just keep waiting it out? The Republicans were going to have to cave very soon.
