The way Boomers shifted from hippies to loving Reagan was always a trip. One minute they are at Woodstock, next they are on Wallstreet?
If you claim FDR Democrats stayed loyal, then how do you explain voting patterns in 80s-2000s.
I’m not going to derail the thread further, but I’ll need to look into the actual studies because I’m not convinced.
The boomers never shifted as much as people think. Leftists don't consider the Hippies and Flower Child types as leftists because their was no economic ask, and tbh they weren't heavy into any ask except "I don't want to fight in that war," "I want to do drugs," and "let me have all the sex." It was different from the labor battles—because people were killed—and red revolution talk from the late 1880s to Great Depression. You had the Civil Rights and feminist movements back then, along with the more fringe and radical movements like SDS and the Black Panther Party that were leftist at their core, but most of the more popular stuff was fluff. Even affluent black people left the Civil Rights movement after the VRA passed because MLK became openly leftist.
FDR Dems stopped being the dominant voting force in 80s and startrd dying. Boomers took over.
Also wealthy and affluent people live longer, and they tend to be more conservative.
I don't like attributing set attitudes and ideologies to generations because it flattens experiences.
