There isn’t

Some people become conservative over time, but most studies show people stay what they were.

Your parents are typically an indicator of your political leanings.

Hmm, Seems counterintuitive, but I’ll look into it. If you have any studies or videos that you can share pass it along.

It’s not counterintuitive at all. Those ideas just became fact due to right wing programming.

FDR Democrats stayed loyal to the Dems until they died.

Baby boomers were much more conservative than they thought which is where the idea comes. Those ”flower children” and ”summer of love“ types were like the present day identity based folks today, if they even were because a lot of their movements were self interest. (after Nixon ended the draft, Vietnam protests crashed for instance).

The way Boomers shifted from hippies to loving Reagan was always a trip. One minute they are at Woodstock, next they are on Wallstreet?

If you claim FDR Democrats stayed loyal, then how do you explain voting patterns in 80s-2000s.

I’m not going to derail the thread further, but I’ll need to look into the actual studies because I’m not convinced.

The belief that a large number of boomers went from anti-war hippies in their youth to right-wingers by middle age is really based on a handful of notable examples.

All those anti-war boomers who were out protesting could vote in 1972 and McGovern carried one state. It's not that the US was dominated by leftist politics until suddenly boomers grew older and decided they loved Reagan.

The boomers never shifted as much as people think. Leftists don't consider the Hippies and Flower Child types as leftists because their was no economic ask, and tbh they weren't heavy into any ask except "I don't want to fight in that war," "I want to do drugs," and "let me have all the sex." It was different from the labor battles—because people were killed—and red revolution talk from the late 1880s to Great Depression. You had the Civil Rights and feminist movements back then, along with the more fringe and radical movements like SDS and the Black Panther Party that were leftist at their core, but most of the more popular stuff was fluff. Even affluent black people left the Civil Rights movement after the VRA passed because MLK became openly leftist.

FDR Dems stopped being the dominant voting force in 80s and startrd dying. Boomers took over.

Also wealthy and affluent people live longer, and they tend to be more conservative.

I don't like attributing set attitudes and ideologies to generations because it flattens experiences.

Yup, which is true for a lot of people in this country. I read recently that a large segment of the population no longer identifies strongly with anything and tends to swing elections based on how they feel at the moment. The days of identitarian politics are fading, replaced by people with narrowly curated self‑interests. That’s why you actually have to offer tangible things now—because most people don’t care about social issues or whatever identity‑politics fight is happening unless their personal financial situation is secure.

MTGs resignation has sent shockwaves through the political atmosphere. Some are begging that the anti war champion stay in congress and continue her good work.
