Whether he wants to admit or not, dude has lost interest in finishing this series. The response to those last 2 disastrous seasons of the show probably killed off whatever interest he still had. Dude just said a couple days ago that he still has a long way to go...AFTER 10 YEARS. It ain't happening....:unimpressed:

Just about done with book two..the enhanced ibook copys are dope AF. And also I still dont think the end was as bad as most on this board do. Rushed, yes. Still a top 5 show IMO. I do hope he finishes the books as now Im actually committing to them.

His story was full of unnecessary characters and storylines. There's no way he shouldn't have completed his story in 5 books. I'm done with this guy. I regret ever starting this series.

:francis: I hope Joe Abercrombie and Steven Erikson got next. Their worlds/characters will never reach ASOIAF/GOTs popularity but at least they got finished joints and their material would also be great for TV.

I was started the Storm Light series years back. The first two books were cool. Didn't read the third or fourth though.

Reading Shogun now. Highly recommended if you're interested in Japan and like and palace intrigue. Similar to Thrones that way. Obviously there's nothing fantastical about it though.

He started in 1996 (when GOT was published)....honestly 1991 because that’s when he got the idea to write the books. It doesn’t take 25-30 years to finish a book series.

Yea that's the main reason I wanted to start. Had just finished a full rewatch of the show. Cant wait for book 3

Howard Meets Hercules

May 28, 2025

Profile Pic

For all you Howard Waldrop fans out there… if you enjoyed our short films, the adaptations of MARY-MARGARET ROAD-GRADER, NIGHT OF THE COOTERS, and THE UGLY CHICKENS that we’ve been showing at film festivals over the past couple of years, we have big news a-coming. A Waldrop feature is on the way. All animated, from Lion Forge.
It’s an adaptation of Howard’s novella A DOZEN TOUGH JOBS, his take on the Twelve Labors of Hercules. Joe Lansdale, the Sage of Nacogdoches, father of Hap and Leonard, and creator of Bubba Ho-Tep, did the screenplay, and no one could have done it better except maybe Howard His Own Self.

(I know, I know. Some of you will just be pissed off by this, as you are by everything I announce here that is not about Westeros or THE WINDS OF WINTER. You have given up on me, or on the book. I will never finish WINDS, If I do, I will never finish A DREAM OF SPRING. If I do, it won’t be any good. I ought to get some other writer to pinch hit for me… I am going to die soon anyway, because I am so old. I lost all interest in A Song of Ice and Fire decades ago. I don’t give a shyt about writing any longer, I just sit around and spend my money. I edit the Wild Cards books too, but you hate Wild Cards. You may hate everything else I have ever written, the Hugo-winners and Hugo-losers, “A Song for Lya” and DYING OF THE LIGHT, “Sandkings” and BEAUTY AND THE BEAST, “This Tower of Ashes” and “The Stone City,” OLD MARS and OLD VENUS and ROGUES and WARRIORS and DANGEROUS WOMEN and all the other anthologies I edited with my friend Gardner Dozois, You don’t care about any of those, I know. You don’t care about anything but WINDS OF WINTER. You’ve told me so often enough).

Thing is, I do care about them.
And I care about Westeros and WINDS as well. The Starks and Lannisters and Targaryens, Tyrion and Asha, Dany and Daenerys, the dragons and the direwolves, I care about them all. More than you can ever imagine.

I loved “A Dozen Tough Jobs” the first time I read it, ages ago. I loved Howard too. It saddens me that he did not live long enough to see the film; I hope we do him justice. How can we not? Hercules, Howard, Joe, Lion Forge… I wish you all could share my excitement at the prospect of this movie.
